After recording hours of footage at NYC’s Pace Gallery last month, the complete music video for Jay Z‘s latest Magna Carta…Holy Grail single has finally arrived.
Directed by Mark Romanek, the “Picasso Baby: A Performance Art Film” music video takes the energy of hip-hop to the conservative realm of modern / contemporary visual art.
As the Mark Romanek-directed clip starts, Mr. Carter speaks on the relationship between both art forms and mentions the fact that concerts are very much an art performance, where the energy or vibe is determined by the venue and the crowd.
When art started becoming part of the galleries, it became a separation between culture and even in Hip Hop, people were almost like, ‘Art is too bourgeois.’ We are artists. We’re alike. We’re cousins. That’s where it’s really exciting for me, bringing the worlds back together.
In the video you’ll see many familiar faces like actors Taraji P. Henson, Michael K. Williams & Rosie Perez. Rapper Wale, along with many other artists, dancers, designers, and excited fans, get to take part in the unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
