This year marks the biggest gun bust in New York City’s history. The New York Police Department (NYPD) announced on Monday, August 19th that they’ve seized more than 250 firearms. Of the totaled 254 guns, 36 were reported stolen prior to the bust. As a result, officials arrested 19 people involved in two illegal gun operations.
Authorities say an undercover cop purchased the guns in 45 separate transactions. Among the firearms confiscated were assault rifles and a fully automatic.
The weapons were transported between South Carolina and North Carolina on low-cost buses to New York City’s Chinatown, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly and Mayor Michael Bloomberg said.
