Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson is set to live out the role of Winnie Mandela, on the big screens. The official trailer for the delayed film has finally hit the Internet. Considering the recording artist’s résumé, Hudson undertakes what could arguably be her most challenging role yet, as she portrays South African leader Nelson Mandela‘s wife in the biopic of her life.
Oddly enough, Nelson is played by Terrence Howard in the film that chronicles Winnie’s life, from her childhood to her marriage to Mandela while being incarcerated as a political prisoner. The film sets out to also recount Winnie’s own struggle to create change in South Africa.
The film originally debuted in 2011 at the Toronto Film Festival, but is slated to premiere stateside on September 6.
Back in 2011, the real Winnie said she was never consulted about the film and considered it an insult. I wonder her feelings about that now? Either way, peep the trailer up top, let us know what you think!
