A seemingly apologetic Russell Simmons sat down with the late night talk show host, Arsenio Hall to flesh out the details of having approved the release of a Harriet Tubman “sextape.”
When a public outcry ensued post the lewd video’s debut –– which featured the character of Harriet Tubman luring her “massa” into the bedroom, for the purposes of blackmail –– Russell Simmons was forced to take it down.
I didn’t get any calls from any civil rights leaders or any people who… they just said ‘we accept your apology,’ because before they even knew about this, I had apologized. But a lot of these do-nothing negroes –– they were very angry and kept talking, so it’s been very tough for me. They tried to turn me into Paula Deen. I want to move past that, you know.
Earlier, Russell further expressed his regrets about cosigning the project he didn’t help produce or direct. Check out his full statement in the video up top.
