Write of Passage, a global educational foundation for the dialogue of graffiti culture, presented its first annual “Piece Out” at The Trolley Museum of New York in Kingston, New York.
The project, which featured artists KEO TC5, MR. EWOK ONE, SYE TC5 and SACHA JENKINS, painted a mural of subway graffiti at the inaugural event.
Write of Passage was granted the opportunity to legally paint graffiti on one of the last standing vintage NYC trains, which according to the artists, makes great for spray-painting due to its smoothness and length.
According to The Source magazine, curator Sacha Jenkins says:
We commend the Trolley Museum of New York for hosting such a groundbreaking event. Thirty-plus years later, Subway graffiti is a global phenomenon–a language with many regional dialects. The fact that the Trolley Museum is one of the first American institutions to recognize the powerful language that was born on our soil, says a lot about how the culture has evolved.
