It all began with Telemundo, where television personality Julissa Bermudez got the break of a lifetime as co-host of The Roof at the tender age of 19.
Since then, the Queens-native has played host to major shows including BET’s 106 & Park — being the first Latina to ever host a show on the network. So what has the Dominican beauty been up to lately?
We recently caught up with Julissa for a one-on-one, where she chatted about her new hosting gig for NUVOtv’s comedy series, Stand Up and Deliver. The series features her spotlighting up-and-coming comedians and popular comedy venues.
The 30 year-old also dished on her experiences as the Brand Ambassador for the popular shoe brand, Steve Madden, the fate of the now defunct Style Network reality series Empire Girls, her ex-fiance and former NFL Superstar, Larry Johnson and more. Check out a few snippets after the jump!
On hosting a comedy series:
It’s actually a big challenge for me because I’ve never hosted anything where I get to flex a little bit of my banter and comedic skills. So while I’m interviewing the comedians they ‘holds no barred’ and let it rip and I have to go with the flow [...] It’s nerve wrecking because [the comedians will] throw anything at you.
On working with Steve Madden:
It’s been great because a lot of the time when you don’t get to see me on TV, you get to see me in your local mall with such a multi-billion dollar brand attached to my name. For him to even have a ‘brown face’, a spanish girl at that, attached as brand ambassador … It’s really something that makes me proud.
On ‘Empire Girls’:
We were on hold forever for Empire Girls Season Two and then Esquire Network has taken over Style Network, so it kind of left us without a home. But [Adrienne and I are] totally still down to do another season.
