On Monday, December 2, Essence announced that Prince will be the headliner for their annual music festival held in New Orleans.
For the magazine’s milestone anniversary, the music legend will paint the town purple over the Fourth of July weekend in 2014. “Prince last performed at the Essence Festival for its 10th anniversary, back in 2004,” the publication remembers. Ten years later, he’s back again.
Essence will also partner with the “Purple Rain” singer-songwriter to support the #YesWeCode special initiative, led by the Rebuild the Dream Foundation, in efforts to encourage young people to utilize and awaken their creativity through media and technology outlets.
Michelle Ebanks, Essence Communications President, had this to say about their 20th Anniversary Festival headliner:
Welcoming an artist as iconic as Prince back to the ESSENCE Festival for a 20th anniversary performance is incredibly exciting. The Essence Festival is where we come together to connect to both our culture and our community, so we are pleased to support Prince and the Rebuild the Dream Innovation Fund in advocating for our youth.
Additional performers and speakers will be announced at a later date. For more information and updates visit www.essencefestival.com
