Now that the Golden Globes are out of the way, the 2014 Oscars ceremony is next up on the list.
The ABC television network recently announced that they will be airing the 86th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday March 2nd and revealed the nominees for each category.
Among those to make the cut were 12 Year a Slave actors Lupita Nygon’o for “Actress – in a Supporting Role,” Chiwetel Ejiofor for “Actor – in a Leading Role” and their director Steve McQueen, who is up for both the “Best Director” & “Best Picture” categories.
Somali-American actor Barkhad Abdi is up for “Actor – in a Supporting Role” for Captain Phillips, while producer and artist Pharrell Williams has received his first Oscar nomination for his Despicable Me 2 hit song, “Happy” under the “Music – Original Song” category. Lastly, Bradford Young is in the running for “Best Cinematography” for his work in the indie film, Mother Of George.
Surprisingly, there are no nods for Fruitvale Station. If Pharrell wins his category, he’ll be the third hip-hop artist to take home a gold man, after Eminem and Three 6 Mafia.
Hosted by Ellen Degeneres, the 2014 Oscars will air live from the Dolby Theatre on Sunday, March 2nd at 7pm EST/4pm PST on ABC.
