Singer/Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson became the second to ever earn the “Favorite Humanitarian Award” at the 40th Annual People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday night (January 8).
With her sister, Julia by her side, the Chicago-native walked up to the podium and gave a heart warming, tear-held acceptance speech, where she talked about her foundation, her late mother and how she stressed the importance of family:
My mother always taught us without family you have nothing. Whether you know it or not, we all are family. What happens to the other happens to us. So it’s very important to make a difference. It’s one thing to be a celebrity and have power, but it means nothing if we’re not making a difference and helping someone else, trying to change a life.
Hudson and her older sister were recognized for their positive community efforts with children through the Julian D. King Gift Foundation, which they started after the 2008 murder of their mother, brother and Hudson’s 7 year-old nephew Julian.
