Like any other day, KTLA entertainment anchor Sam Rubin was ready to take on his exclusive interview with veteran actor Samuel L. Jackson. Little did he know, his live one-on-one would take a turn for the worse.
While segueing the conversation over to Jackson’s role in the new Robocop film, Rubin comfortably asked, “Did you get a lot of reaction for that Superbowl commercial?” Samuel paused for a brief and awkward moment, looked to the side and said:
What SuperBowl commercial? See you’re as crazy a the people on Twitter. I’m not Laurence Fishburne. We don’t all look alike! We may all be black and famous, but we all don’t look alike! Umm, you’re busted. You’re the entertainment reporter? You’re the entertainment reporter for this station? And you don’t know the difference between me and Laurence Fishburne? There must be a very short line for your job outside there.
While Rubin continued to apologize, he tried to divert the subject back to his movie role, but Jackson decided to keep it going and embarrass him even more on live television:
Oh, hell no. Really? Really? I’m the other guy. The other one. ‘What’s in your wallet?’ There’s more than one black guy doing a commercial. I’m the ‘What’s in your wallet’ black guy. He’s the car black guy. Morgan Freeman is the other credit card black guy. You only hear is voice though, so you probably won’t confuse him with Laurence Fishburne.
LOL! And to get his point across even further, the 65 year-old actor added more descriptions of black guys in recent television commercials.
That anchor is probably still kicking himself right now. Watch the hilarious clip up top. Oh, and just for kicks, here’s Laurence Fishburne’s actual KIA commercial.
