When Brandy caught wind of the opportunity to honor Nelson Mandela, she hopped on it!
The singer/actress attempted to surprise concert goers this past weekend in Johannesburg, South Africa after being added to the line-up at the last minute.
Unfortunately — much to Brandy’s surprise — the 90,000 seater First National Bank Stadium had already cleared out by the time she came out.
According to one attendee (@Kabomo), Brandy performed a pair of songs (before an estimated crowd of 40 audience members) before becoming furious and storming off stage:
Brandy performed to an empty stadium. With the stadium lights on. She sulked after two songs and walked off.[...] It was late. People didn’t know there was a concert after the games. No one knew Brandy was around. Maybe a 40 people audience
Brandy’s rep has also issued a statement regarding the incident, saying:

Unfortunately with these cases you see a person’s character is put on trial. It’s taken into two totally different directions. You see this villain, this monster, so with this project, we really wanted to give him his humanity back. To show a day in the life of what this guy was like during his day-to-day routine. To really understand who this guy was…
