The story of the “Godfather of Soul” seems to be making its way to the silver screen pretty soon.
Reports say that Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment have greenlit the untitled biopic, which will have 42 star, Chadwick Boseman playing the lead role of the late James Brown.
The film will chronicle Brown’s road to fame as one of the world’s most highly influential R&B musicians.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project has been in the works since 2001. Since then, both Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes have been considered and eyed to portray the Godfather of Soul.
When Brandy caught wind of the opportunity to honor Nelson Mandela, she hopped on it!
The singer/actress attempted to surprise concert goers this past weekend in Johannesburg, South Africa after being added to the line-up at the last minute.
Unfortunately — much to Brandy’s surprise — the 90,000 seater First National Bank Stadium had already cleared out by the time she came out.
According to one attendee (@Kabomo), Brandy performed a pair of songs (before an estimated crowd of 40 audience members) before becoming furious and storming off stage:
Brandy performed to an empty stadium. With the stadium lights on. She sulked after two songs and walked off.[...] It was late. People didn’t know there was a concert after the games. No one knew Brandy was around. Maybe a 40 people audience
Brandy’s rep has also issued a statement regarding the incident, saying:
Set in the ’90s, ‘American Milkshake’ is a coming of age teen comedy starring Jolie (Tyler Ross), a white kid in a predominantly Black high school. Struggling with his identity, all he wants is to be accepted, and since he does not live in a tough neighborhood where he could gain “street-cred”, he decides to make his play at joining his school’s basketball team.

Rounding out the 1989 crew is Spike Lee, Samuel L. Jackson, Giancarlo Esposito, Bill Nunn, Rosie Perez, Frankie Faison, Joie Lee and Ruby Dee..

Formerly of the 90s group, Groove Theory, the R&B-soul songbird has released the official track listing for her forthcoming album, Ice Cream Everyday.
Led by her current single, “Afraid,” Ms. Larrieux is serving up 16 tracks for our listening pleasure in her latest LP and fifth career solo album. The deluxe edition is now available for presale on her official website. As for the album’s official release date, it’ll be dropped on August 27th via Blisslife Records.

With the recent premiere of the Forest Whitaker-produced film, Fruitvale Station, actors Michael B. Jordan and Octavia Spencer are making their last set of promo rounds.
Jordan, who brings to life the role of Oscar Grant (fatally shot in 2009 by Oakland Transit Station officers) and Spencer, who plays his mother, adorn the August 12th issue of JET magazine.
