Taking the stage at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida, Beyonce Knowles-Carter was the center of attention at the 2008 Diamond Ball And Private Concert Saturday night.
The singer/actress was the guest of honor at the gala which hoped to raise as much money as possible for the Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation. With tables costing up to $11,000, Beyonce also took the stage alongside seven-year-old piano prodigy, Ethan Bortnick, who was reportedly playing to show his appreciation for the hospital for treating his younger brother’s heart troubles.
Beyonce was inducted to the center’s Hall of Fame as a reward for all of her generous charity work.

Yesterday, celebrities and prominent figures from coast to coast helped create the World’s largest shared reading experience in one day by reading one book, Don Freeman’s classic, CORDUROY, to aid the literacy crisis in the U.S. on Jumpstart’s Read for the Record Day with thousands of reading events happening simultaneously across the country.
New York kicked off the event on the TODAY Show with spokespersons LL Cool J and Matt Lauer, Jesse McCartney, Greg Kinnear, Maria from Sesame Street and Mary-Louise Parker. Other events included Singer/Songwriter/Actress JoJo in Boston; Gabrielle Union in Los Angeles; and R&B Star Mario in Washington D.C. Notable politicians, educators and community leaders were also on hand to support the early literacy crisis in young children. Great Cause!

Honoree and recipient of the ‘Champions Of The Millennium Goals Award’ rapper and entrepreneur Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter attends 2008 Global Leadership Awards gala at The Waldorf-Astoria Hotel Wednesday in New York City.
Carter received the award for his visionary leadership of “Water for Life” and his partnership with the United Nations.

Actor, producer and legendary hip hop icon Ice Cube spoke to a raucously vocal group of students at McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, MN, on Thursday before announcing the winner of the Ice Cube Scholarship, Josiah Kosier.
Ice Cube, who chooses the scholarship winner annually, awarded Josiah with the four-year, full tuition scholarship for studies in music technology.

Twelve-year-old Jordan Coleman is the voice of Tyrone on Nickelodeon’s Nick Jr. show, The Backyardigans. Challenged by his parents to give back to his community, Jordan used earnings from his voiceover career to create Say It Loud!, which he believes will inspire black boys to study hard and stay in school.
“When I heard the statistics about African-American boys and education I was shocked and sad. I knew the numbers were low, based on what I see at my own school…but I had no idea the situation was this bad,” Jordan said.
