CL EXCLUSIVE: ‘A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE’ CAST AFTER PARTY (SPONSORED BY SOUTHERN COMFORT)

Concrete Loop was invited to the preview of the newest revival of Tennesse Williams’ classic play, A Streetcar Named Desire. The 2012 edition features a great ensemble cast including: Blair Underwood, Nicole Ari Parker, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Wood Harris and the legendary Carmen De Lavallade. The play was directed by Emily Mann and will officially open on April 22nd for a limited time only.

Overall, it was a great effort and amazing chemistry within the cast. Originally debuting on Broadway back in 1947, this rendition features a multi ethnic cast. Nicole Ari Parker fills the shoes of late great actresses Jessica Tandy and Vivian Leigh in her role as Blanche, giving a great performance and might I add Tony worthy. Blair Underwood took on the role as Stanley with a vengeance and during some confrontational scenes he steals the show. Actor Wood Harris (best known for starring in hit HBO show, The Wire) brought a softness to role of Mitch and Broadway vet Daphne Rubin-Vega was a believable Stella.

After the play, the stars headed to the Bourbon Street bar and celebrated. Check out our exclusive photos below and also keep reading to see how you can check out a showing using our special discount code.

STYLE SPOTLIGHT : ROSES GABOR

Underground sensation Roses Gabor is known to clubbers and international deejay’s as the voice of dance floor after collaborating with an impressive repertoire of artists from Gorillaz to SBTRK while performing everywhere from Madison Square Gardens to the Glastonbury Pyramid Stage. CL’s Felicia Mancini chats with the UK stylistic songbird on her style, sound and secret gems…

FELICIA: What would best describe your sound?
ROSES:Dulcet Tones and banging beats.

FELICIA:What would you call your personal style?
ROSES: Like a Lychee Martini! Sexaaay n’ smooove! Ha! Seriously, probably carelessly cool with lots of interesting jewels.

FELICIA:You recently dropped ‘The Wonderful World of Roses Gabor Vol 1′ , what was the process like for creating this mix tape and what can you tell us about it?
ROSES: Gosh ….. a lot of back and forth with Martelo (@iammartelo) my amazing DJ. It was fun seeing it take shape and incredibly exciting.

FELICIA: What influences you most in life whether its music or fashion?
ROSES: Hmmm I guess I’m influenced by stuff I love for example I’ve just seen my friend Jeymes Samuel of The Bullitts new video “SuperCool” its a sick vid and great song and that sh*t makes me feel excited. That’s the feeling I aim to give my fans.

FELICIA:How important is a sense of style and image for artists?
ROSES:I’m not sure for new artists but for me it’s really important. I’ve always loved clothes, sneaks and jewelry so no matter what my job was I would want to look what a friend of mine who is a hairdresser calls “casually fabulous”

FELICIA:If you had a daily uniform what would it consist of?
ROSES:Mawi&KTZ and probably some Super Sunnies (sunglasses).

FELICIA:Any secret gems in the UK or on your worldly travels you can dish out to us as far as where to shop/party/dance/eat?
ROSES: Ooohhhh! Shopping for Vintage is Shag in Victoria/Melbourne Australia. Austin Texas was great for vintage too. As far as partying there is Sky Bar in Lebanon, they really know how to look after you in the Middle East. I had THE best time there. As far as eating – I was a vegetarian for a while but started eating lamb/chicken in South America a couple of years back because it has the BEST and tastiest although can’t remember the name of my favorite place . When I’m in London or the USA, everyone knows I love Wholefoods alldayerryday! Continue

CL EXCLUSIVE: KANDI BURRUSS TALKS NEW SHOW, BUSINESS TIPS, ATL HOUSEWIVES & MORE!

Concrete Loop’s Angel Laws recently spoke with singer/songwriter and now reality TV star Kandi Burruss about her upcoming Bravo TV special, “The Kandi Factory.” The music based show is added on a long list of endeavors the 35 year-old has under her belt. In this exclusive interview, Kandi speaks about her many business ventures and even gives tips to up and comers who want to make it in the music business. Make sure you check it out and audio is included!

The Kandi Factory premieres on Sunday, March 4th at 10pm EST, right after a new episode of BRAVO’s hit show, The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

PART 1: KANDI TALKS NEW SPECIAL, ‘THE KANDI FACTORY’

Angel: Hey, Kandi What’s up?

Kandi: Hey What’s up? How are you doing?

Angel: I’m good! So you have the new show “Kandi Factory” coming on Bravo on March 4th. For some of the readers who aren’t familiar with the show, what exactly is it about?

Kandi: The Kandi Factory is basically taking people and doing what I did for Kim on the first season of the show musically. You know giving her the new song and helping her with her career or whatever. We’re going to be do that for just regular people because after I did that for her, people were coming up to me on the street, ‘If you can help her, I know you can help me.’ I went to Bravo and I said, ‘Hey, I figure it would be a good show if you allow this for regular people or anybody that wanted the opportunity.’ So they thought about it and allowed me to do it.

So this is what they’re calling the special because it’s an hour and half, but it’s really the pilot for the show, to see what people think, so we can plan the future episodes. But basically I feel like for anybody, there are a lot of people trying to make it independently right now. But the first thing they need to know is, you need a hot record. You need to have your image together. Continue
