CL TOPIC: BISHOP EDDIE LONG UPDATE + SHERRI SHEPARD GOES IN ON HIM! – SHOULD CHURCH MEMBERS FINANCE FORGIVENESS?

According to the ReddingNewsReview.com, New Birth Missionary Baptist Church pastor Bishop Eddie Long has settled out of court and has agreed to pay $24.8M to the four young males who accused him of sexually molesting them:

The source, who claims to be familiar with the details of the settlement and did not wish to be identified, said that Long refused to give a public apology, which ended up costing him more.

What began as a $2 million agreement to settle the case for each of the four men quickly rose to $5.5 million for the respective plaintiffs, the source said, only because Long refused to publicly admit guilt.

The men are to divide $2.2 million equally and then receive $400,000 in payments until the money is paid out over the next 20 years, the source said. The final figure comes to $22 million for the four men and $2.8 million for the plaintiffs attorneys.

Reports say his congregation and church goers are slowly depleting in number, including his former elder Rev. Bernice King. It is also said that Mr. Long has asked his church members for donations of up to $500-$1000 in an effort to expand the mega institution into the cities of Denver, CO & Birmingham, AL.

Television personality Sherri Shepard of ABC’s The View spoke on the topic earlier this week and practically bashed Bishop Eddie Long for his apparent actions of guilt

CL TOPIC: PREVIEW ‘DARK GIRLS’ DOCUMENTARY – CAN THE DARK VS. LIGHT-SKINNED ISSUE BE RESOLVED?

Unfortunately, within the black community, there has always been an oftentimes unspoken division between women of color. With its roots in the days of slavery, skin color was used to separate and determine one’s perks and advantages within the black community. Sadly this “house” versus “field Negro” mentality has been internalized by our beautiful queens of today.

In an upcoming documentary entitled Dark Girls, it explores “the deep-seated biases and attitudes about skin color–particularly dark skinned women, outside of and within the Black American culture.” The Bill Duke and D. Channsin Berry-directed film is set to be released in Fall/Winter 2011.

Do you think we’ll ever evolve from this light vs. dark skinned mentality?

CL TOPIC: CHRISSY OF ‘LOVE & HIP HOP’ PROPOSES TO JIM JONES – WOULD YOU PROPOSE FIRST?

On Monday night’s episode of VH1′s Love & Hip-Hop, (VIEW HERE) the usual drama spewed from the reality TV show. Aspiring rapper Somaya Reece declared war on singer Olivia for snitching on her former manager about his ‘trifflin’ comments about Jim Jones’ girl, Chrissy and as usual Emily B was playing the fence, attempting to play peacemaker out of all the gals in the group.

The part of the show that stood out the most was the nerve-wracking idea running through Chrissy Lampkin‘s mind. After being a longtime girlfriend to former Dipset rapper, Jim Jones, she decided that it was time to get more about their 9 year relationship. Lampkin decided to take it upon herself to invite friends and family to an event where she would make a career announcement when in reality she would propose to her rapper boyfriend. Every thing that society says a man should do when it comes to marriage proposals (i.e. buy an engagement ring, bending down on one knee), Chrissy went against the grain despite the fact she was a woman popping the big question.

In a recent interview with Vibe.com, Lampkin was asked if it was frustrating to propose first. Her response:

“No, because I know what I got myself into. You know, he’s definitely younger than me and to be honest with you, neither one of us is really ready right now to get married, but I wanted to let him know that I love him enough and that’s definitely in my plans. We didn’t’ set a date or anything like that, but I just had to let him know. I do love [him] enough to show that it’s time to grow up and that I’m here for [him].”

Now ladies, if you loved your man, had been his sole girl for years, but had no ring…

Would you mind getting down on one knee?
