There are certain artists that we all know and love that we can’t wait to get our hands on some new music from. ‘06 was a big year for comebacks, with albums from Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Ciara, and more, and we got loads of new music from unexpected artists on ‘07, but I think it’s safe to say that ‘08 is definitely going to be another year for some of music’s giants to stake their claim and return to their thrones…

Janet Jackson is back with her 10th studio album, and fans are looking for her to make a huge comeback in ‘08 with Discipline. I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t stoked about hearing some new material from Janet, especially with the roster of producers and writers that she has working on the new project. “Feedback” was a great way to announce her return on to the scene, and it’s only a matter of time before we see a video and hear some new material from the album. So get yourself prepared for Miss Jackson’s return!
2007 was chalked full of great music, and even though we couldn’t list them all, here some songs that made a large impact in ‘07. They’re not listed in any specific order, we just wanted to end the year off with a pretty good collection of chart toppers and songs that you couldn’t turn your radio on without hearing!
SOULJA BOY / CRANK DAT
♫ SOULJA BOY - CRANK DAT // I didn’t think this would take off and be as huge of a phenomenon as it is, but Soulja Boy is definitely on his grind this year. I tried hard not to get caught up in the hype of the dance, but when this song comes on, it is something about it. The lyrics to the song - questionable. And if “Superman that ho” means what they say it does, it’s a shame that this 17-year-old boy would utter these words. I will say one thing though, the song makes everyone move. Put this on in a crowded setting, everyone will be “crankin’ dat.”

JAY-Z & BEYONCE - 2007′S IT COUPLE
No one can deny it, Jay-Z & Beyonce were the definite IT couple of 2007. From their many vacations across the pond, to their late night dinner dates - these two were the most talked about couple in hip-hop this year.
I wonder if they’re going to keep their title next year or will someone else take the throne? Who knows? But with all those wedding rumors going around, it looks like we’ll see them at the top again in ‘08.
2008 is just around the corner, and I’m sure that it’s going to be an exciting year for music. Various cool & new artists have been hitting the scene these past couple of years and I think that ‘08 may be just as promising. There should be some interesting releases coming out, from singer/songwriters to huge producers.
Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey are making their come backs yet again and we know those are going to be obvious sellers - but what about the newcomers who have been grinding it out and waiting their turn to make an explosion onto the scene?

KANYE WEST / STRONGER
Of course, ‘07 was a good year for music videos. From expensive videos, to completely video albums, people definitely set the bar higher this year. Even though sometimes he can throw some tantrums, he does conceptualize and put together amazing video compositions. Kanye West’s latest album, Graduation finds him at his peak, and even though ‘07 has brought some very high highs and some super lows for Kanye, there’s no denying that “Stronger” was one of this year’s greatest music video compositions.
You can say a lot of things and with Bee, but there is no doubt 2007 was her year. With a worldwide sold out concert, B’Day video anthology and Spanish CD release, plus more awards to add to her list - there is enough to talk about.
But you ain’t done talking about Beyonce if you didn’t talk about how she looked. Knowles had to be one of the most talked about celebrities this year when it came to her style. Everyone wanted to know what she wore, how much it was, and where they could get it (or a copy at least).

RIHANNA - 07’s “IT” GIRL
Rihanna was also my pick for “most improved” in 2006, and she definitely progressed in 2007. The singer not only took over the charts with “Umbrella”, but she took over the red carpet wherever she appeared. With her new edgy haircut, she had girls everywhere heading to the salon. Her model physique and her punk-glam style combined set her apart from any other female artist in her league. Not to mention, she was also our first feature for ‘Star Style’ earlier this year.
