♫ HOT OR NOT: CASSIE’S “OFFICIAL GIRL” ♫

Thursday, April 10, 2008 |

♫ CASSIE - OFFICIAL GIRL (LISTEN)

A new Cassie single entitled “Official Girl” has surfaced. It’s produced by none other than Danjahandz and penned by our good friends from The Clutch. I’m almost sure that this is the first single from Cassie from the yet-to-be-titled sophomore album. But with big statements and hype from Diddy, I am hoping that she’ll put out some great product. “Official Girl” doesn’t find Cassie in a stellar vocal position, but I think that this time around, Cassie is trying to get her vote for most improved.

So, what do you think? Will this be Cassie’s comeback song? Is the song hot or is it just not?

♫ HOT OR NOT: KEANTHONY - I THOUGHT ♫

Wednesday, April 9, 2008 |

♫ KeAnthony - I Thought

Meet KeAnthony. The Tennessee native is hitting the music scene with his new song, ‘I Thought‘, off of his debut album, A Hustla’z Story.

I Thought‘ is based on KeAnthony’s life growing up in the streest of Tennessee. His best friend got caught up and when faced with the possibility of an aggravated robbery charge, he turned KeAnthony in to the police, leading him to live the next eight years of his life behind bars.

The album is a self-written lyrical lullaby narrated by the singer. “It’s all reality to me,” he states. “I can’t sit down and write ‘I love you’ and not mean it. I write songs that deal with love and life.”

A Hustla’z Story features production from The Underdogs, Tank, and Scott Storch. Make sure you peep the video for ‘I Thought’ (featuring Tank) after the cut.

♫ HOT OR NOT: WYNTER GORDON ♫

♫ WYNTER GORDON - SURVEILLANCE (LISTEN)

Meet Wynter Gordon. With R&B moving more and more in a pop direction since ‘07, it seems as though a lot of music has gotten lost in translation. Wynter, a new Atlantic Records signee brings you “Surveillance,” a danceable, up-tempo track, where a girl finds herself being followed and surveyed by her jealous man.

“Surveillance” has been eating up the dance world and along with preparing her debut album, she’s also had placements on Danity Kane’s new project, Welcome to the Dollhouse (she has credits on “2 of You,” along with Adonis & Bryan-Michael Cox). The song has grown on me so much - I think maybe because it sounds like a mash-up between Keri Hilson’s “Miscommunication” and any thing from The Dream’s catalog. So what do you think? Is “Surveillance” hot or not?

HOT OR NOT: MUFFY - “SWEET”

Friday, March 14, 2008 |

♫ Muffy - Sweet!

House/pop princess Muffy has been making a huge noise on the Atlanta hipster scene with not just her music and performances, but her bubbly personality and quirky sense of style. Muffy, a New Jersey native, is best known for her infectious beats and rap-sing, cute tone. Many who come in contact with her have called her the black Gwen Stefani, but Muffy definitely is ready to make her own mark. The song “Sweet” has been spun heavily in the dance scene down here, and has garnered her a lot of attention.

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing the girl perform, and I must admit, I love her energy. But first we’ve gotta ask you: Is it hot or not?

♫ Almost September - Beautiful

Meet Almost September. The group is composed of veteran lyricist MC Lyte, producer/writer/vocalist Whitey and producer/writer Jared Lee. Basically everyone is familiar with MC Lyte and even though Whitey and Jared Lee may not be household names, many of you have heard some of their productions. They have written and produced for the likes of India.Arie, Tyrese, Usher, Floetry, Jon B and more.

The group met by chance while they were working on a recent Macy Gray album. One night when Macy was unable to attend a scheduled session, Lyte heard a song Whitey and Jared were working on immediately began penning some lyrics and you know the rest is history.

We posted this song late last year as a new MC Lyte song, but we weren’t aware she was in a new group. So we are reintroducing it. Make sure you peep their myspace page for more info.

HOT OR NOT: JAYMS MADISON - “ROOM SERVICE”

Friday, March 7, 2008 |

♫ Jayms Madison - Room Service

Could she be the Cassie of 2008? Jayms Madison has certainly created an online buzz for herself with the new track “Room Service,” which has been making audio appearances on MySpace. Also, dancers have been going off about it due to the video blogs of her rehearsals and auditions for dancers with choreographer, Jonte`, who has become most famous because of his work with Beyonce on “Freakum Dress.”

I can’t say that I’m too impressed with Ms. Madison’s vocals, however, “Room Service” is definitely a catchy tune that puts me directly in the mindset of Cassie’s first storm onto the scene with “Me & U” and “Just One Nite.” We’ll see though. What do you guys think? Is “Room Service” intoxicatingly hot or annoyingly not?

Go visit Jayms on MySpace and show her some love, if you’re digging what you’ve heard. Do you think it’s hot or not?
