MAG COVERS: CHANEL IMAN COVERS PAGE SIX

Thursday, January 22, 2009 |

2009-01-25-cover-chanel-iman.jpg

Runway and Designer favorite, Chanel Iman covers the newest issue of Page Six Magazine. The 18 year-old model talks boyfriends, tattoos, Tyra Banks and how it’s hard to book some jobs because of the way she looks.

Peep some snippets:

On her frustrations at the difficulties that models of color face in the industry:
“It’s not just black girls. It’s ethnic girls in general: Brazilian girls, Hispanic. You really don’t see a lot of Asians either. A lot of designers think that if every girl on the runway looks exactly alike, then people will come to the shows and buy the clothes because they won’t be focusing on the models….It’s not even just runway either… us ethnic girls should be getting a lot of the covers too! I would love to be on half of the campaigns these [white] girls are booking, all looking exactly alike. It’s not right. It’s not fair.”

MAG COVERS: LEBRON COVERS GQ

Tuesday, January 13, 2009 |

LeBron James is back on a Condé cover, following last April’s controversial Vogue cover. The 24 year old basketball phenomenon appears on the February GQ.

The cover article tells the tale of six GQ staffers who challenged LeBron to a game of basketball. What were they thinking?!

Posing in a slate gray suit, pink shirt and gray tie, James spoke of his cover:

“It’s great. It shows that I’m fashionable. I never thought I would be on the cover of GQ. But I’ve done some things I never thought I would do. I have to thank (NBA commissioner) David Stern. Ever since he put in the rule about having to get dressed for the game, I had to get dressed.”

Thursday, January 8, 2009 |

kanyevibe.jpg

Kanye West graces the cover of the February issue of Vibe Magazine looking rather serious. The caption accompanying the picture reads “I am Rap”. Peep some snippets:

Kanye on being deemed a violent person because of his paparazzi experience…
“I haven’t done anything violent. They make it seem like I actually went and hit the paparazzi. I haven’t. I was restrained. I’m good at restraining myself from committing violent acts. I know how to control my temper. That one paparazzo made it a bigger deal. I just put my hand up and he felt like he had more right to my personal space than I did. I put my hand up to stop him from shooting me.”

Kanye on 808’s being his best album…..
“I do think it’s my best album to date. No, I actually know this is my best album to date. Do I think it will be my best album ever? No, Ill improve. Do I think there are mistakes in it? Yes. There has to be. I’m a human being. But I think it surpasses Graduation. These 12 tracks are going to resonate more than any 12 tracks of any album this year.”

In related news, Kanye’s latest album, 808s & Heartbreak jumped from the #5 spot to the #3 spot this week.

MAG COVERS: OPRAH SPEAKS ON WEIGHT ISSUES IN O MAGAZINE

Tuesday, December 9, 2008 |

oprahcover.jpg

Oprah Winfrey speaks on on her new weight issues in the Januaray issue of O magazine. According to the article, she is now 200lbs, a 40 pound weight gain from just 3 years ago.

“I’m embarrassed … I can’t believe that after all these years, all the things I know how to do, I’m still talking about my weight. I look at my thinner self and think, ‘How did I let this happen again? I didn’t just fall of the wagon. I let the wagon fall on me.”

Oprah’s current BMI — a measure of body fat based on height and weight — of 31.8, puts her in the obese category. Obesity increases your risk of developing high blood pressure, diabetes and many other serious health problems.

For Oprah, who ran a marathon in 1994 and co-authored the 1996 best-seller “Make the Connection: Ten Steps To A Better Body — And A Better Life” with fitness and health guru Bob Greene, the battle of the bulge is one of frustration.

I definitely wasn’t setting an example,” she says in her article. “I was talking the talk, but I wasn’t walking the walk.
