NEWS/STORIES: MJ TRIAL TO BE TELEVISED / WAKA FLOCKA & PETA TEAM UP / TISHA CAMPBELL-MARTIN BATTLING LUNG DISEASE

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor has allowed television cameras to film the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, who was charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of pop superstar Michael Jackson. Judge Pastor also moved the trial to March 24, which lawyers on both sides estimate will last about six weeks.

Murray pleaded not guilty last year, and is currently free on bail. The involuntary manslaughter charge alleges Murray “did unlawfully and without malice kill Michael Joseph Jackson”. In fact, Dr. Murray claimed Jackson killed himself with the fatal dose of the powerful anesthetic Propofol. If convicted, Dr. Murray faces up to four years in prison.

WAKA AND PETA TO TEAM UP

It appears that Waka Flocka (Flame) will be joining the nude “Ink Not Mink” campaign for the animal rights organization, PETA. The tatoo-covered 24 year-old will be one of the next celebrities posing nude in an effort to support the right of animals. In an interview w/ XXL, the rapper shared his thoughts on the treatment of animals:

“Animals should be treated the same way as you would a kid. Would you want someone just to walk up and skin your kid? Hell no!” [Source]

Actress Tisha Campbell Suffering From Lung Illness

We have learned that Tisha Campbell-Martin, (also known as Gina on the comedy TV series ‘Martin’), has been diagnosed with Stage 2 sarcoidosis. This disease is the same illness that took the life of comedian Bernie Mac about two years ago. Sarcoidosis is known to attack the lungs, skin and/or lymph nodes but can inflame and affect any organ in the body. Unfortunately, death can occur when complications arise in the lungs, heart, or brain. [Source]

NEWS: DR. CONRAD MURRAY APPEARS IN COURT + JACKSON FAMILY IN ATTENDANCE

Dr. Conrad Murray appeared in court on Monday and was ordered to return June 14 so that a date for a preliminary hearing can be set while the judge determines whether there’s enough evidence for him to stand trial to involuntary manslaughter charges in the death of pop superstar Michael Jackson.

Fans outside the courtroom sang “We are the World” and wore T-shirts with Jackson’s picture as well as the slogan, “Justice for Michael”. Jackson’s family members, including parents Joe and Katherine, and siblings Janet, Jermaine and Randy, attended the hearing (see photos below).

On the June 14th court date (nearly a year after Michael’s death), the judge is expected to determine whether Dr. Murray can continue to practice medicine in the state of California. Murray pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter charges in February and reports surfaced earlier this week that his defense team would claim Michael killed himself.

‘ROUND THE WAY: DR. MURRAY CLAIMS MICHAEL JACKSON KILLED HIMSELF

Dr. Conrad Murray is set to appear in court on Monday for a preliminary hearing after pleading not guilty to involuntary manslaughter charges in the death of Michael Jackson.

But, according to TMZ, his defense team claims that the pop superstar gave himself the fatal dose of the powerful anesthetic Propofol. Check out the defense’s argument below.

- At around 10:50 AM, Dr. Murray gave Jackson 25 mg of Propofol from a 20 ml bottle — that’s only about 1/8 of the bottle.

- The dose Dr. Murray administered would keep someone asleep for only 5 to 10 minutes, But the Propofol, along with the Ativan and Versed that was already in MJ’s system, had a synergistic effect that put Jackson to sleep for a longer period of time.

- For the next hour, Dr. Murray stayed in the room and was on the phone for much of the time. Dr. Murray didn’t leave the room to make the calls because MJ liked activity in the room, regularly sleeping with the lights on and cartoons blaring on the TV.

NEWS: DR. CONRAD MURRAY PLEADS NOT GUILTY

Dr. Conrad Murray pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter charges Monday, following the death of his patient, pop superstar Michael Jackson, last June. According to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, Jackson’s death was ruled a homicide by drug overdose with Dr. Murray administering the music legend the powerful anesthetic propofol and two other sedatives to help him sleep.

Superior Court Judge Keith Schwartz released Dr. Murray on $75,000 bail, ordered him to turn in his passport and return to court April 5 to set a date for his preliminary hearing.
