Earlier this week actor and public speaker Hill Harper read excerpts from his newest book Letters to a Young Sister: Define Your Destiny in Harlem. The book (which is in stores now) is the second part to Letters to a Young Brother: Define Your Destiny, which he released last year to rave reviews.
Letters to a Young Sister unfolds as a series of letters written by older brother Hill to a universal Young Sistah. She’s up against the same challenges as every young woman: from relating to her parents and dealing with peer pressure, to juggling schoolwork and crushes and keeping faith in the face of heartache. In his straight-talking style, Hill helps his young sister build self-confidence, self-reliance, self-respect, and encourages her on her journeys towards becoming a strong and successful woman. The book also includes contributions from admirable women like Angela Basset, Ciara, Michelle Obama, Tatyana Ali, Nikki Giovanni, Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrikck, Eve, Malinda Williams and more.

The first images from the film Mama I Wanna Sing starring Ciara, were released recently. The movie, based off the popular Black off-Broadway musical, tells the story of a preacher’s daughter who rises from the church choir to international pop superstardom.
The film also stars Lynn Whitfield, Patti LaBelle, Juanita Bynum, and Hill Harper. Check out the teaser trailer here and see more images over at Sincerely Ciara. The movie is expected to hit limited theaters in October of this year.

After doing the horror flick One Missed Call this year, looks like Meagan Good can’t get enough of these gorey flicks and will be stepping it up in Saw V.
According to Comingsoon.net, the actress will play Luba, a city planner who comes from an extremely affluent family. Will she be a victim of one of jigsaw’s many traps? I don’t know, but the costars of these movies don’t always end up too good. I also know some of you would oddly enough - like to see Meagan go through that.
Miss Good is working on a number of projects this year, including the film The Love Guru with Mike Myers and Justin Timberlake. Saw V is set for release October 24th…

Keshia Knight Pulliam, best known as little Rudy off The Cosby Show, will be in the next film coming from Tyler Perry - Madea Goes To Jail. The Hollywood Reporter reports:
Keshia Knight Pulliam will star as an imprisoned prostitute in “Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail.” Derek Luke also stars, along with Tamela Mann and David Mann.
The Lionsgate comedy centers on Madea (Perry), whose penchant for trouble-making lands her behind bars. She comes to the rescue of Candy (Pulliam), a fellow inmate preyed upon by a large woman named Big Sal. Luke is on track to play Joshua, an attorney who has a past with Candy.

Not only is April National Food Month. It’s also National Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) Awareness Month, a health observance created to increase awareness about STDs, including their transmission, prevention and treatment.
