MOVIES: “I AM LEGEND”

Saturday, June 9, 2007 |

Since it’s the weekend, it’s a good time to talk about another upcoming movie.

Will Smith stars in another science fiction and slightly horror thriller. “I Am Legend” is based off the Richard Matheson’s novel of the same name, but the film will follow closely to the premise of “The Omega Man”, the second film adaptation of the novel. The story is basically based off a former military scientist (Smith) who after an apocalyptic event is said to be the “last man on earth”…but, he may not be alone.

It looks to be an exciting film , especially for those who have already read the novel or seen the film adaptations based off the book. I definitely look forward to this being a huge Smith fan anyway…

MOVIES: “AMERICAN GANGSTER”

Friday, June 8, 2007 |

Maybe some of you remember when I posted the candids from the set of the film back in September? Well filming wrapped up for “American Gangster” around November and the trailer was released this week. Denzel Washington stars as Frank Lucas, the real-life heroin kingpin from Manhattan who smuggled the drug into the country in the coffins of American soldiers returning from the Vietnam War.

The film also includes an allstar cast of Russell Crowe, Cuba Gooding Jr, T.I, and Common. There has already been a bit of Oscar buzz surrounding this film, I look forward to seeing it. Seems like a great and intense crime film…

OK, ENOUGH WITH THE HAIR SALON MOVIES…

Monday, April 16, 2007 |

poster_l.jpg

Because frankly, I can’t take no more.

I first heard about this movie via Fresh and shook my head. A couple of people emailed me about this film so, I guess I’ll just go ahead and spit out my opinion - no more ‘Beauty Shop’ remakes. Please, we already had ‘The Hair Show‘ and ‘Nora’s Hair Salon’. I think the world has fully grasp the concept of African American women in the beauty salon across the United States, so…what? Challenge yourselves Hollywood and come up with a better premise.

Here’s a quick movie lesson for you all - Did you know Vivica Fox’s ‘The Salon’ was suppose to be called BEAUTY SHOP? As a matter of fact, Hair Show and The Salon battled for the title but, Oscar nominated Queen Latifah got those rights.

Check out the trailer here if you can’t guess what this is about.
