ALBUM REVIEW: ROBIN THICKE’S ‘LOVE AFTER WAR’

♫ Robin Thicke – Love After War

With the year 2012 slowing creeping up, Robin Thicke has decided to deliver a compilations of 17 musical gems with his 5th studio album, Love After War. Mr. Thicke has truly come a long way since his long-haired “When I Get You Alone” days. Nine years later, the R&B crooner is now singing to a new and refreshing tune.

What is much appreciated about Thicke is his overall simplicity when it comes to his album covers. On this project, Robin is seen painted or sketched out in black on the cover, with his blue eyes accenting his evident happiness. And he has every reason to be. He’s married to his high school sweetheart, Paula Patton and early last year they brought their beautiful son, Julian, into the world. With their busy careers and family addition, Robin and his love have managed to keep their fire aflame and get through the highs and lows of their relationship. And it’s clear that their relationship has deeply inspired this album. Continue

CL ALBUM REVIEW: BEYONCE’s 4

♫ Beyoncé – End of Time

It’s been nearly 3 years since Beyoncé has released any new music. She had been laying low, spending time experiencing life in order to gather inspiration for her fourth studio album, appropriately titled 4.

After the success of her third studio album I Am… Sasha Fierce and a successful world tour, Beyoncé took some time off to enjoy married life and freedom. Even while on break, producers would boast in interviews about what was to come of her fourth studio project, proclaiming that Beyoncé was solidifying her own lane and her own sound.

The first taste we got of the album was the lead single, “Run the World (Girls).” With high anticipation, and even with it’s high budget video and high profile premiere, fans still had mixed reviews. But truthfully, the album’s first single is not reflective of the rest of it’s material.

CL ALBUM REVIEW: MARY MARY’S SOMETHING BIG

♫ Mary Mary – Walking

After six chart-climbing albums and three Grammy Awards, Mary Mary is back at it again and they’ve got something big to share! The gospel duo’s 6th studio album Something Big is yet another contemporary album that showcases their undeniably powerful voices and catchy hooks, embedded with meaningful messages. Erica and Tina have made their mark in gospel music since the debut of their crossover hit-single”Shackles (Praise You)” back in 2000.

Since their introduction to the world, these two sisters have consistently taken contemporary gospel to a new level with each completed project. Something Big is a solid, inspirational album to add to one’s music collection. This Warryn Campbell-produced compilation is one of those albums that will make you do a double-listen, just to make sure you’re actually listening to a gospel album. The album does an excellent job of keeping up with the musical style trends of popular music, while keeping soulful singing at its core…

ALBUM REVIEW: JENNIFER HUDSON’S I REMEMBER ME

♫ Jennifer Hudson – I Remember Me

After almost three years away from the music game, Jennifer Hudson makes a stable return with her sophomore release I Remember Me. Keeping in mind that she experienced and unimaginable tragedy with the murders of her family not long after her debut release, in listening to her new album, one can’t help but feel a sense of pride, in her ability to remain strong— if nothing else. On I Remember Me, Hudson seems somewhat brand new, re-energized, and seemingly jovial despite her life tribulations. The opening track “No One Gonna Love You,” is less persistent than the title would suggest, but sets the album’s tone off in the right direction. Produced by Rich Harrison, who is known for bringing the go-go element to tracks for the likes of Beyonce and Amerie, the song finds Hudson stepping a little bit out of her comfort zone with a new spin on what could easily turn into a run-of-the-mill bad break up song, but thankfully takes a turn in a different direction.
