Meet Tomi Jones. This Columbus, Ohio-native was once a member of the R&B group MISSEZ and is venturing out into her own. Now as a solo R&B artist, Jones has worked with the likes of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, James Fauntleroy, Adonis Shropshire and Bryan Michael Cox. When it comes to her musical idols, the soul singer credits legendary Michael Jackson and powerhouse Celine Dion for fueling her passion for music.
Check out her semi-autobiographical single, “Fight Again”. On the Tyrice Jones-produced track, Tomi allows us to connect with her on a vulnerable level and take a peek into where she came from, her relationship with her mother, forgiveness and being pushed to that next level in pursuing her dream.
Allow me to introduce to you Daley, an up and coming singer/songwriter from Manchester, England, who spent his teenage years honing his craft and recording tracks in his bedroom while listening to artists such as Imogen Heap, Jill Scott, Maxwell and Prince for inspiration.
After moving to London last year at the age of 21, Daley began building a name for himself performing in clubs and caught the attention of Damon Albarn, frontman for The Gorillaz, who watched Daley’s performance of Maxwell’s “Pretty Wings” (see video below).
♫ Daley – Alone Together (ft. Marsha Ambrosius)
Earlier this year, Daley released a mixtape aptly titled Those Who Wait (available for free), which includes “Alone Together”, a collaboration with fellow UK export Marsha Ambrosius. He is currently working on a debut album, so you can be on the lookout for this rising star. Continue
Meet KING. This dope trio hails from Los Angeles and consists of twin sisters, Paris and Amber Strother and singer Anita Bias. Relatively new the music scene, they are already getting some major co-signs – including praises from ?uestlove and Erykah Badu.
According to their official site, they write and produce (Paris produces their tracks) all of their music and even made their first official video by hand! Check out the video below and also make sure to get their EP too! Definitely keeping my eyes (and ears) on these talented ladies.
Meet rising jazz star Kenneth Whalum, III. While currently making a splash on the New York jazz circuit, Kenneth is clearly no stranger to music or its business. He attributes a great deal of his musical ability to his uncle, 8-time GRAMMY nominated saxophonist and recording artist, Kirk Whalum. He also cites his great uncle Hugh “Peanuts” Whalum, who has played with the legendary Lionel Hampton and Miles Davis, as a major contributor to his development.
As a brilliant composer, arranger, bandleader, and tenor saxophonist, Whalum is excited to release his highly anticipated album, To Those Who Believe. He’s been working quite hard on making sure that the project is right and ready for release on iTunes next week, December 21st.
