Looks like Tameka couldn’t keep Usher on the short leash for too long. Usher’s new single “Love in This Club,” produced by Polow Da Don and featuring Young Jeezy is the #1 song in the country. And that’s after it jumped from #51 to the #1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. That is crazy. I bet Usher is gushing. This will be Usher eighth #1 single in his career, which is pretty impressive.
Usher certainly had his work cut out for him this time around. With his last album, 2004’s Confessions, which went a whooping 9 times Platinum, Usher was on top. I was a little skeptical at first for this new project, which we have found out is titled Here I Stand, because I didn’t know what Usher was going to do to top the previous effort, much like my feelings about Mariah with Mimi. Also, a lot of songs had been leaking and none of the material was really stellar to me - I found myself only really digging the Rich Harrison-produced “Dat Girl Right There,” but apparently, the labels were too scared to release that as a first single.
In any event, Usher is set to release Here I Stand, worldwide, in June.

According to Hitsdailydouble.com, Janet Jackson has landed the #1 spot on next week’s Billboard charts. Interestingly enough though, it’s been said that label heads are not that happy with the 178,000 copies sold, due to the huge promotion that Def Jam pushed behind the project. Discipline landing this spot will be the first time Janet has had a #1 album since 2001’s All For You, but this is also her lowest first week sales of her career.

N.E.R.D. (Pharrell Williams, Chad Hugo and Shae Haley) have revealed that they are ready to release their 3rd studio album, Seeing Sounds (in reference to a neurological phenomenon called Synesthesia) at the end of June.
The new single, “Everyone Nose,” a sly reference to girls and cocaine in the club scene, has been doing rather well amongst bloggers and fans. This will be N.E.R.D’s first time working as a group since 2004’s Fly Or Die.

Keyshia Cole, who is currently sitting at the top of Billboard’s “Hot R&B/Hip Hop” charts with her song, “I Remember,” will be filming a new video this week.
“Heaven Sent” makes for the 4th video from her platinum album, Just Like You. The video will be directed by Benny Boom and shot somewhere in Hawaii on Tuesday. Word is they are going to do a play on the “Footprints” poem. Should be a good one.

I was randomly reading Pharrell’s blog today and peeped his post about Kelis’ video “Get Along With You”. He said: Kelis might have been a little early in her career to pull this off but she should still get credit, it was a great video! So true, and I should mention that was my jam back in the day. Weirdly, it was announced this week that Kelis will be releasing a “Hits” album featuring “Get Along With You” and many of her other innovative hits. Coincidence? I think not.
KELIS - THE HITS will feature a 14-song overview of her career. Pick up a copy on March 11th via Star Trak/Jive/Legacy.

TVT Records, once hailed as Billboard’s top independent label, will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy this week, company head Steve Gottlieb tells Billboard.com. “This is not the end of TVT,” he insists.
Founded in New York in 1985, TVT rose to notoriety after releasing music by rock bands Nine Inch Nails and KMFDM. In more recent years, the label has focused on hip-hop, signing artists such as Lil’ Jon, Teedra Moses, Pitbull and Ying Yang Twins. It seems as though this artists are also having trouble with TVT. Just a few weeks ago, Pitbull put TVT on blast about this lack of promotion on his latest album, The Boatlift.
