MUSIC NEWS: “WATCH THE THRONE” BREAKS iTUNES RECORDS / MIGUEL TALKS NEW ALBUM / WILLOW’S “WHIP MY HAIR” BRINGS IN 4 MILLION

0

It’s said that Jay-Z and Kanye West broke records on iTunes in the United States with their one-week sales record, selling ,nearly 290,000 downloads via the retailer through the week since it’s exclusive release on 8th.

Watch the Throne surpasses the previous one-week iTunes record, set when Coldplay’s 2008 album Viva La Vida Or Death & All His Friends shifted 282,000 in the first week.

It’s no surprise though. The album was made available exclusive through iTunes from the 8th-11th of August, and the physical form of the album has only been in stores since the 12th. The overall official first-week sales, which will include digital and physical copies combined, will be released by Nielsen SoundScan on Wednesday morning. Currently, it’s looking to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart with around the 410,000-450,000.

MIGUEL TALKS SOPHOMORE ALBUM

R&B crooner Miguel opened up to TheBoomBox about the follow-up to his debut album, All I Want Is You, which produced a large hit in “Sure Thing” and is currently being promoted by his latest single, “Quickie.”

The next album I think is going to project more of my outlook on the world as opposed to my romantic experience,” he explains of the album, which has no title or projected release date as of yet. “On All I Want is You, I discussed my experience in my last three or four relationships. It was a great way to introduce myself because I think love brings us all together. But I think it’s a lot more that I can discuss and this album is going to definitely be that platform to really broaden the minds of fans.”

Seems as though the criticism Miguel has received about his style, etc. may have something to do with the inspiration for this upcoming project. It’s no secret that with his electric sense of style, fans and naysayers have questioned Miguel about his sexuality, which his response has been that only people in the United States have that outlook on fashion and style.

MUSIC NEWS: LIL’ WAYNE & DRAKE COLLABORATIVE ALBUM CONFIRMED / TEAIRRA MARI SIGNS NEW DEAL

0After all the hype and success of Jay-Z and Kanye’s big collaborative effort, Watch the Throne, Cash Money’s Baby takes matters into his own hands by confirming that Lil’ Wayne and Drake will put out a collaborative album of their own, boasting that after their solo projects, The Carter IV (hitting stores August 29th) and Take Care (dropping October 24th) are released, the Young Money millionaires get to work on their own merger.

“Wayne and I recently talked about the Weezy/Drake collabo album,” Baby told XXLMag.com. “That’s definitely going to get done.”

“It’s older versus younger,” Baby said. “I listened to a few songs off Watch the Throne and it feels like an older feel to me. I think with Drake and Wayne, they young. They young cats. You got 23 and 28. Then you got Jay-Z and them, who are older and really on their way out the game. Then you got Wayne and Drake and them, who are still youthful to the game. So, it’s two different types of music all the way across the board.”

On their way out? Baby also added:

“But what they’re doing is great. I think it’s great for the game, great for the business, great for retail as a whole. I just think when Wayne and Drake get together is going to be something real special also because we more youthful.”

A Lil’ Wayne and Drake album could be cool, considering that the two have had great chemistry in the past. However, it’d be interesting to hear their take on it, especially given the content on Watch the Throne. The confirmation from the Cash Money CEO seemed a bit like taking shots at Kanye and Jay.

MUSIC NEWS: BEYONCE’S “4″ CERTIFIED PLATINUM / DRAKE COLLABORATES WITH STEVIE WONDER / LIL’ KIM INKS NEW DEAL

According to her official website, just a month after it’s release, megastar Beyoncé’s fourth studio album, appropriately titled 4, has been certified platinum in the United States.

The album, released June 28th, sold 310,000 in it’s first week of sales, debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200 charts, making this Beyoncé’s fourth consecutive #1 album. In the second week, the album remained #1, despite an 63% sales decrease, selling 115,000 copies.

Congratulations to Beyoncé. Now, it’s only a matter of time before information about an upcoming tour starts surfacing.

DRAKE COLLABORATES WITH STEVIE WONDER

0After headlining his October’s Very Own Festival in Toronot, Young Money signee Drake talked with MuchMusic to reveal some exclusive information about the legendary Stevie Wonder collaborating with him on his upcoming sophomore album, Take Care.

“Stevie Wonder is a very close friend of mine. I’m honored to call him a friend, someone who embraced me very early in this music business,” he said. “This is an exclusive right here, because it’s MuchMusic, and we’re Canadian: Stevie Wonder is actually on ‘Take Care.’

“He helped me out with a lot of the music, just came and sat with me, listened to my music, told me where I could add a couple things to make it more sonically appealing, and not only that but we actually are writing together, which is an incredible experience.”

So I hit him, asked him to come by, and with no hesitation he hit me back like, ‘I will be there.’ Not only that, but he was supposed to do two songs and he did like six,” Drake said. “It was incredible.”

In addition to this news, Drake released his lead single, “Headlines” over the weekend. Take Care is slated to hit stores this fall, October 24th.

LIL’ KIM INKS NEW DEAL

Rumors swarmed earlier this year that Lil’ Kim had signed a deal with former “Magic Stick” collaborator 50 Cent’s label, G-Unit. However, it seems that new developments have arisen, and although before, she spoke about releasing her next record independently, the Queen Bee has opted to tap a major label for her new release.

According to the Universal Music roaster, Lil’ Kim is officially a part of the Universal Music Group family.

This is quite interesting. It’s not certain whether Kim is linked to Universal Motown, Geffen, Interscope, A&M, Def Jam or any other labels underneath the UMG umbrella. However, it is quite interesting that Lil’ Kim would choose to be labelmates with her obvious rival, Nicki Minaj.
