Mario – Skippin’ (full) – listen
Mario did right with this song. I don’t understand why he didn’t use this as a first single. I’m sure after the first material was recorded and leaked, he went back in and did this as well as some other songs that I’ve loved from Go!. Production wise, and vocally, this song gives me what I need. With Go leaking now, and Mario’s album finally having a solidified date of November 27th (record stores say October 30), lets hope they can finally get this project out. He’s been performing (he’s had several dates with Kelly Rowland) and doing promo, and releasing a second video, so things must be going pretty good.
Britney Spears feat. Pharrell Williams – Stupid Things (full) – listen
I guess people weren’t playing when they said Britney was going back in the studio with ever black super-producer. Even though this song sucks vocally (which I’m not surprised by), it has it’s appeal. The track is obviously produced by Pharrell Williams (or The Neptunes). Based on the lyrical content of the song, Britney is being open and honest about her relationship with Federline, which I can respect. The album is appropriately titled Blackout. The release was November 16th, but I’m positive that’s subject to change.
Chris Brown – Gone Get It (full) – REMOVED
Looks like this wasn’t Chris Brown after all. Gotta love the internet. New Chris Brown track from his upcoming album, Exclusive. Recently, his album cover leaked and people were a little disappointed. I admit, I was as well. I don’t know what’s going on with his project, it’s been pushed back a couple of times, and I don’t get it because I feel like the material has been solid thus far, he’s had great promotions, with being on magazine covers and stuff. Either way, “Gone Get It” sounds weird. It doesn’t even sound like Chris to me.
One Chance – Now I Know (full) – listen
I’m really interested to hear what’s going on with these guys, considering that I’ve heard that they’re back in the studio, working on new material. I like the new single, “My Word” which I did a post on, and I think that it has the potential to garner some mainstream success. I respect these guys because they’ve been grinding for a while and they are amazing performance. They all have amazing voices, so I hope their new material is great.
Mary J. Blige – Just Fine (full) – listen
When this song comes on, it just sounds like so much fun. Mary sounds like so much fun. I remember on that whole No More Drama tip, Mary was dancing and stuff, and I can definitely see her having a more fun approach on this new album, because I actually am really liking the single. The production on it is tight, Mary’s voice stays in the pocket and rides the song really nicely, and I’m usually not into Mary’s voice so much, but she does this song so much justice. Mary’s new album is tentatively titled Growing Pains and will be out sometime this fall.
Alicia Keys – Superwoman (live) – listen
I think that Alicia Keys will have an interesting new album. I definitely think that she’s been looking beautiful these days (I’m loving the new image), and “No One” is kind of growing on me. Although this is a live version of “Superwoman,” it’s supposedly taken from the new album, As I Am. This song sounds pretty, but you know, there’s something about Alicia Keys and these live version — I really want to hear what the studio version of this song sounds like. Especially after how much I loved “Unbreakable” and never heard a studio release of that. And I know there is one.
It’s been a long time coming, but finally, Trey Songz’s sophomore album, Trey Day has a release date and is set to hit stores tomorrow, October 2. It took a while, because on MySpace, Songz had been talking about Trey Day since last summer. Although Trey’s debut release, I Gotta Make It was a well put together R&B album that garnered him a lot of fans as well as respect and street credibility, on Trey Day he pulls from a couple of top producers such as Bryan-Michael Cox and The Clutch. His debut was a little spotty, but I think this new release is a good, solid effort.
