♫ NEW MUSIC FROM SHAREEFA

Sunday, October 12, 2008 |

SHAREEFA - MR. INCREDIBLE
SHAREEFA - OOH AHH

DTP artist and formed Def Jam signee Shareefa was due to put out her second album, The Secret earlier this year, but her first single, “On Fire” failed to get any buzz. And after a showcase in NY, it was rumored that Shareefa was dropped from Def Jam along with other former DTP signees, Bobby Valentino and Steph Jones.

But here’s new material from Shareefa, “Mr. Incredible” and “Ooh Ahh,” from her sophomore album. Although I was never really was a fan of Shareefa, I think that these are good songs for her. I actually really dig the production on “Mr. Incredible,” she’s riding it really well. I’m not as fond of “Ooh Ahh.”

♫ HOT OR NOT: SOPHIA FRESH & KANYE WEST

Saturday, October 11, 2008 |

SOPHIA FRESH FEAT. KANYE WEST - WHAT IT IS

Check out the first single from T-Pain’s new group, Sophia Fresh. Hailing from Houston, Texas and Atlanta, Crystal, Cole Rose and Skye make up the new trio that is currently signed to Atlantic Records.

Skye and Cole Rose signed their first major deal with J Records through Underdog Entertainment in 2005. Although the partnership didn’t work out as planned, the girls got under the wing of T-Pain and added their third member, Crystal. Their official first single, “What It Is” features none other than Kanye West, so the label must really believe in what these girls can do. So you know we gotta ask what you think…

♫ NEW MUSIC: BEYONCE - “IF I WERE A BOY” & “SINGLE LADIES”

BEYONCE - IF I WERE A BOY
BEYONCE - SINGLE LADIES

The much anticipated singles from Beyonce have finally leaked - “If I Were A Boy” in tagged form, and the uptempo dance track, “Single Ladies.” The two singles are set to impact radio next Tuesday, while Beyonce’s third project titled I Am… will drop November 18th.

“If I Were A Boy” is a pop ballad, which finds Beyonce in a sweet spot vocally, and is produced by Toby Cad (”Big Girls Don’t Cry” for Fergie), while the Tricky Stewart and The Dream-produced “Single Ladies” feels more like “Get Me Bodied,” and will be service to urban radio. I must admit, this new material has me quite excited, as well as the statements that have been released by producers and Beyonce herself. Can’t wait to see what Sean, Rodney and Timbaland have done for her.

♫ NEW MUSIC FROM CHRISTINA MILIAN

CHRISTINA MILIAN - US AGAINST THE WORLD

Singer and actress Christina Milian is making a huge splash back into the music scene with her new single, “Us Against the World,” which is supposed to premiere exclusively on MySpace on October 6th, but it looks like listeners and the blogsophere will go a chance to hear it early. Christina has had a hard time garnering any real success when she was on Def Jam, so hopefully this deal with the new MySpace/Interscope imprint, she can get the drive she needs behind this new project.

Even though this isn’t what I expected for the first single, I can see the direction. The Mad-Scientist-produced “Us Against the World” is ballad-esque but has that pop sound that everyone is going for this time around. This song will probably grow on me. But I wanna see what else Christina’s got up her sleeve.

♫ HOT OR NOT: D.O.E. - “COMING DOWN”

Thursday, September 25, 2008 |

D.O.E. FEAT. KERI HILSON - COMING DOWN

Check out this new track from D.O.E. featuring Keri Hilson. If you don’t remember who D.O.E. is, he appeared on Timbaland’s “The Way I Are,” which also features Keri. D.O.E. is a signee on Timbaland’s Mosley Music Group imprint, and has been down with them for a while, so it’s interesting to see that he just now has music coming out.

“Coming Down” is produced by none other than Timbaland’s protege, Nate “Danjahandz” Hills. I really dig the pop sound of the track, but with rapping over it. It just feels different than any other “rap” out there, especially with D.O.E. sing-rapping on the hook.

♫ NEW MUSIC: J. HUD & FANTASIA…

Thursday, September 18, 2008 |

JENNIFER HUDSON & FANTASIA - I’M HIS ONLY WOMAN

A lot of new music came out today, but this by far, has to be my favorite! Here’s some more material from Jennifer Hudson’s debut self-titled album. This song is so funny, with the phone conversation at the beginning, featuring none other than our American Idol, Fantasia Barrino! It’s funny that they’d put both of these powerhouses on this song together, it’s a collaboration I would have never expect.

I just knew that at the end it would be a loud shouting fest, and as much as I want to hate on this, I am loving this. The song originally was supposed to have both their J. Records label mate Jazmine Sullivan on it, but they replaced her with Fantasia. You can still hear Jazzy on the backgrounds, though. It has this old feel to it that I just love. It reminds me of those songs (think “Woman to Woman”) I used to listen to in the car with my mom on Saturday mornings on my way to Karate classes.

♫ ALICIA KEYS & JACK WHITE - “ANOTHER WAY TO DIE”

Thursday, September 18, 2008 |

ALICIA KEYS & JACK WHITE - ANOTHER WAY TO DIE

A while back, we announced that Alicia Keys would be teaming up with Jack White of the White Stripes for the theme to the new James Bond film, Quantum of the Solace, after rumors of everyone from Amy Winehouse to Beyonce recording it at first. Well, finally, here’s the track from the upcoming film, which hits theaters everywhere November 14th, starring Daniel Craig.

I always love Bond themes, so this is a great record to me. I really like the darkness of it, and the way their voices clash - it just works for the song, the guitar, the production, everything. But how do you guys think the track will compare to the other James Bond themes?
