Even though this isn’t the first single from Keri Hilson’s debut album, In A Perfect World…, I am so excited that new material is finally leaking from the album. Keri has been working so hard on the debut, which features productions from Timbaland, Polow Da Don, Danjahandz and more. “Get It Girl” is a fun female-empowering, up-tempo track and it’s off Timbaland’s first mobile album for Verizon Wireless subscribers.
I am super excited. This isn’t my first encounter with “Get It Girl.” I was dancing super hard in the seat of the car the first time it got played for me. Be sure to check for In A Perfect World… this summer.
Look out for more from Keri on CL, and also be prepared for the new single! Check her out on MySpace and make sure you tell her Brian from CL sent you!
Meet Shwayze. They are a hip-hop/alternative group based out of Malibu. The group consists of rapper Shwayze, Cisco Adler on guitar/vocals and DJ Skeet Skeet on the ones and twos. Word is that they are Jimmy Iovine’s (President of Interscope) pet project for 2008.
So, if you are a fan of fun laid back lyrics with a rap acoustic mix of sound than you will most likely vibe with these guys. They kinda remind me of a mix of Crazy Town, Sublime and Gym Glass Heroes. I dig them.
It was announced this week that “Footprints In The Sand,” from Leona Lewis’ debut album “Spirit ” is the official single of the UK Charity Sport Relief. “Spirit,” which was released in November 2007 in the UK and slated for release April 8th in the US, is the fastest selling UK debut album of all time.
“I feel really honored to be given the chance to release the official Sport Relief single. The lyrics to this song are very emotional and I feel that they really reflect the support that Sport Relief has given to people here in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries”. -Leona Lewis
The video for “Footprints In The Sand” is located under the cut.
I was randomly reading Pharrell’s blog today and peeped his post about Kelis’ video “Get Along With You”. He said: Kelis might have been a little early in her career to pull this off but she should still get credit, it was a great video! So true, and I should mention that was my jam back in the day. Weirdly, it was announced this week that Kelis will be releasing a “Hits” album featuring “Get Along With You” and many of her other innovative hits. Coincidence? I think not.
KELIS - THE HITS will feature a 14-song overview of her career. Pick up a copy on March 11th via Star Trak/Jive/Legacy.
If you caught this week’s episode of Making the Band 4, you saw that Danity Kane went toe-to-toe with Diddy and the Bad Boy A&R to fight for a different, more pop and dance-driven sound. I’ve always felt that was the direction that the girls should be taking on their new album, Welcome to the Dollhouse, due out March 18th.
“Bad Girl,” (rumored to feature Missy Elliott) was written by Mary Brown and Jimmy Beanz and produced by Danja Handz. Word is “Poetry” is one of the few ballads that is to be featured on the album.
Trina feat. Keyshia Cole - I Gotta Thang For You (full) - listen
In all honesty, this doesn’t sound like Keyshia Cole towards the end, but I have no doubt that it’s her. “I Gotta Thang For You,” I’m sure, is a big contender for second single from Trina’s upcoming album, Still Da Baddest. I’ve never really been a fan of Trina’s, so I guess I’m not leaning either side of liking or disliking the track. I think this’ll be cool for radio, though.
Nicole Scherzinger - Who’s Gonna Love You (full) - listen
Here’s another Nicole Scherzinger song from her shelved album, Her Name Is Nicole. This song was produced by Polow Da Don. This is more pop-sounding song from Polow. I kind of dig the feel of the song, it has a very ’90’s feel to me. But it seems as though Nicole has already hit the studio with the Pussycat Dolls. So who knows whether or not her solo debut will ever drop.
J Records signee Jazmine Sullivan and Grammy award winning Amy Winehouse are both amazing vocalists. Both ladies recorded the Thelonious Monk jazz classic, “‘Round Midnight” in recent years and put their own twist to it. It was interesting because it wasn’t until I listened to the words that I realized that it was even the same song. I just familiarized myself with the Amy Winehouse version, but I am quite familiar with Jazmine Sullivan’s version, considering that it was one of the first few records I’ve heard from her.
♫ Amy Winehouse - ‘Round Midnight
“‘Round Midnight” has been recorded in greater frequency than any other jazz standard composed by a jazz musician, so you’ve probably heard some more of your favorite artists sing it before. I can’t make a decision, but in my opinion, both versions are great in their own way. But what do you think? Who sang it better? The troubled artist or the young newcomer?
