♫ HOT OR NOT: TONI BRAXTON - “MELT”

Saturday, November 15, 2008 |

TONI BRAXTON - MELT

We reported just a little while ago that songstress Toni Braxton inked a new deal with Atlantic Records and will be working with Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins for her new album. The as yet untitled album is due out sometime around April 2009. Here is a track entitled “Melt.”

I don’t think this has been confirmed as a new single, just something to show that Toni is still around and working. I’m glad it sounds mature, because I was hoping that Toni wasn’t going to come back and jump on a trend that’s in music.

MUSIC NEWS: KEYSHIA COLE REVEALS ALBUM COVER / LIL’ MO SIGNS WITH GLOBAL MUSIC GROUP / ON THE SET WITH KERI HILSON

Friday, November 14, 2008 |

adifferentme.jpg

Keyshia Cole revealed her album cover exclusively to Rap-Up.com. The album is called A Different Me and is slated to hit stores December 16th. Although I really love Keyshia with the black hair and she looks absolutely beautiful, I’m not to much diggin’ this cover.

LIL’ MO SIGNS WITH GLOBAL MUSIC GROUP

Lil’ Mo who is commonly referred to as “The Godmother of R&B,” has recently signed a two-album deal with Global Music Group.

She will be releasing an album, a follow-up to her 2007 album, Paper & Pain. Mo’s hit single “Superwoman Pt. II,” from her debut album Based on a True Story, quickly became a chart topper. Her critically acclaimed sophomore album, Meet the Girl Next Door, released in 2003, and collaborations such as “Hot Boyz” with Missy Elliott, “Parking Lot Pimpin’” with Jay-Z, “Put It On Me” with Ja Rule, and most recently “Cry” with LL Cool J on his Exit 13 album, has established Lil’ Mo as an R&B sensation.

“We are honoured to have Lil’ Mo as the newest member of our Family here at GMG,” said Roland Turner, CEO of Global Music Group.

The former Elektra Records songstress will release her new album in 2009.

♫ Brandy feat. James Fauntleroy - Drumlife (full) - listen
Wow. I understand why this didn’t go on Brandy’s new album, Human, slated for release December 9th, but I really love it. This song feels so good to me. A lot of the material that we’ve gotten from Brandy this era has been a little sad, but this song really makes me feel good. With Timbaland on the production, and the amazing writer, James Fauntleroy penning the tracks and on background vocals, I just really dig the direction. I’m hoping that the Timbaland productions on the album feel somewhat like this.

♫ Jamie Foxx - Baby Baby Damn (full) - listen
Since the announcement of the release of Jamie Foxx’s new album, Intuition, it seems as though material has began to leak from left and right. Although the new single is growing on me, this pretty much sounds like some leftovers from the first album. Produced by the Underdogs (not surprised), production-wise, it’s a little dated for me. It sounds like the stuff they were doing for Omarion and B2K years ago. Hopefully, this is from old sessions - Jamie’s gotta come harder than this.

MUSIC NEWS: KEYSHIA COLE ALBUM NEWS / PREVIEW RIHANNA’S “REHAB” VIDEO / JAY-Z SAYS NO BLUEPRINT 3 IN 2008

Thursday, November 13, 2008 |

keyblue.gifKeyshia Cole will release her new album, A Different Me just in time for Christmas on December 16th. The album is led by the single, “Playa Cardz Right,” featuring the late Tupac Shakur.

But it seems as though our friends at Rap-Up.com have confirmed that Kanye West and Nas will make guest appearances, and the album will also feature a duet with Atlanta native, and close friend, Monica.

All of the songs on the Oakland native’s latest effort were written or co-written by her with production from producers such as Ron Fair, Polow Da Don, Trackmasters, The Runners, Kwame, and Neffu.

In the mean time, while you wait for Keyshia’s new album, you can tune into the new season of her reality show, The Way It Is on BET every Tuesday night.

PREVIEW RIHANNA’S “REHAB” VIDEO

Pop princess Rihanna gives us a little sliver of her new video from her new single from Good Girl Gone Bad, “Rehab,” featuring Justin Timberlake, who co-wrote the track with producer Timbaland (view photos from the set here).

Rihanna really has milked this album for everything that its worth! “Rehab” was one of my favorite tracks from the album, so I’m definitely not mad at her! The video, directed by Alan Furgeson, should be released any day now.

♫ ALBUM REVIEW: T-PAIN - THR33 RINGZ

♫ Album Review: T-PAIN - THR33 RINGZ ♫
By: Latifah Muhammad

We all know that when it comes to making a radio hit, T-Pain seems to be the go-to guy these days. So it only makes sense that his third release “Thr33 Ringz” is a clever take on how he’s running the game.

LISTEN UP:
♫ T-PAIN ft. LIL WAYNE - “CAN’T BELIEVE IT”
♫ T-PAIN - “RING LEADER MAN”

Although it’s hard to remember radio without auto-tone T-Pain deserves honorable mention for bringing it back to life—in a major way. “Thr33 Ringz” showcases T-Pain’s silly and somewhat versatile nature. Yes there are the obligatory club hits and dance tracks but he also tries his hand at rapping. He was after all a “rappa ternt sanga” when he first hit the scene so trading in voice distortion for raw rap lyricism seems natural.

♫ Left Eye feat. TLC & Missy Elliott - Let’s Just Do It (full) - listen
A lot of terrible, low-quality rips have been going around of this, but here’s the official version. Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, who tragically passed in 2002, will finally get a release of her sophomore album. The LP is being released through Mass Appeal Entertainment, in conjunction with the Lopes family. It will also feature songs from Lopes’ 2001 solo debut, Supernova, which was never released in the U.S. UrbanNetwork.com reports that a duet with late rapper Tupac Shakur called “Legendary” will also appear on the disc. It’s good to hear this, I like it a lot.

♫ Will.I.Am - It’s A New Day (full) - listen
I heard that the Black Eyed Peas were putting out a new album, although were supposed to be disband, after the ill success of Will.I.Am’s solo album, Songs About Girls. “It’s A New Day” finds Will.I.Am still on his fun, funky sounds. I’m assuming that this is just a song dedicated to Obama’s recent win of the White House, because I don’t really see it for another album effort from Will. He needs to stick with the Black Eyed Peas and production.

♫ HOT OR NOT: KANYE WEST & YOUNG JEEZY - “AMAZIN’”

Tuesday, November 11, 2008 |

KANYE WEST FEAT. YOUNG JEEZY - AMAZIN’

We’re only a couple of weeks away from the release of the new Kanye West album, 808’s & Heartbreaks (due out November 24th now) and we have another new song for you. Unmixed and unmastered material has leaked and Kanye has already released two videos from the set. The latest of the leaks is the new Young Jeezy-assisted “Amazin’.” I really love the simplicity of the song.

Also, since Kanye has tried his hand at singing on this new album, I really am interested to know if he’s the one behind the background vocals on the album. Is it Kanye? In any event, it wouldn’t be a party of Young Jeezy wasn’t invited. So you know we have to ask you guys that age-old question…
