WHICH SONG IS BETTER? LE’CHE VS. AMERIE

Monday, May 7, 2007 |

amerie-leche.jpg

You may remember a while back (and I do mean a while - this may be for the throwback CL’ers!), I posted a song by Le’Che Martin, of Making the Band 3 fame. She was a contestant that didn’t get to the finals, but she’s been working her way through the industry, writing and selling songs. Last summer, she collaborated with Rich Harrison and Rico Love with the song, “Get Away,” which was featured on the CL Summer Mixtape. I absolutely loved the song and fell immediately for Le’Che’s delivery. I was under the impression that the song was to be sold. However, when previewing the Amerie album, I noticed that the same Rich Harrison track had been recycled, and the lyrics changed. Immediately, I was turned off because I was so used to Le’Che’s version, however, that’s not to say that I didn’t think Amerie’s song wasn’t a good song… I was a little surprised, considering I remember reading somewhere that Amerie wouldn’t be working with Rich Harrison this time around - and technically, she didn’t, ’cause this track’s been done. Which song do you prefer?

Make sure you check out Le’Che Martin’s MySpace page, and show her some love. Tell her Brian from CL sent you. Also, Amerie’s album, “Because I Love It” is due out May 15, according to Amazon.com.

WHO SANG IT BETTER? MONICA VS. FANTASIA

Tuesday, March 13, 2007 |

Missy Elliott loves to work with Monica (remember “So Gone,” “Knock Knock,” as well as new joints from “The Makings of Me?”). And she loves to work with Fantasia (how could you not remember the masterful ballad that was “Free Yourself?”). But it looks like she couldn’t decide who she wanted to freak this track. And maybe that’s why this song appeared on neither one of these artist’s latest album.

I hear Missy is kind of a tyrrant in the studio, anyway, so maybe none of them did it to her liking. So that could mean that she’s keeping it in the box for someone else. So, you know we’ve got to ask the question… who sang it better? There’s no telling who recorded it first… but who’s version is hotter? Monica’s sultry, southern sound… or Fantasia’s unique church pipes? You be the judge. Oh and thanx to Mellymel46 for the email!

WHO SANG IT BETTER? NICOLE SCHERZINGER VS. ASHANTI

Friday, February 9, 2007 |

Now, I know these two are not exactly the same song, but they are definitely very similiar. The first to come out was Nicole Scherzinger’s “Steam.” It’s produced by my homeboy Bryan-Michael Cox. I’m not exactly sure whether or not this is going to make the cut for her album, but I love the track all of the same. I think it’s a great dance record. However, when 7 & Ashanti dropped “My Number, Babe,” I was pleasantly surprised because it reminds me of a Prince record (mainly because of 7’s vocals), and because it’s a duet. But the production is pretty much identical. Which one do you prefer? Who rides the beat better? Nicole of Pussycat Dolls fame or Ashanti?

WHO SANG IT BETTER? TORI VS. AMERIE

Sunday, October 29, 2006 |

It seems like my girl Tori Alamaze just keeps getting done wrong. Remember a few weeks ago I posted the same story but with the Pussycat Dolls? It seems as though the Cee-Lo written and produced “Take Control,” which is slated to be Amerie’s first single, with “That’s What U Are” as a B-Side was recorded first by Miss Alamaze. Tori hit me up and told me to check out her MySpace page and listen to the song “Control.” Much to my surprise, it is the same song, with little-to-no differences. Let me know what you guys think…

This is the second time that this has happened with Cee-Lo. I know Amerie is signed to a major label, but what’s really going on? As I said in the “Don’tcha” post, peep your boy Cee-Lo all over the background vocals!

WHO SANG IT BETTER? RESENTMENT

Saturday, September 9, 2006 |

I don’t know who recorded this song first, Victoria or Jazmine, but I know that Beyonce recorded it last. I’ve been getting e-mails about this for weeks now. But I was and have been fully aware that there are three versions of this song. To be completely honest, they all sound like three different songs to me! Victoria Beckham’s (former Spice Girl and wife of international soccer star, David Beckham) version does not compare to the soulful Jazmine Sullivan’s or B’s, but upon first listen to Beyonce and Jazmine’s versions, I didn’t even realize it was the same song, but I love both of them. Jazmine’s voice just has so much soul and I love Beyonce’s delivery. The song is just a beautiful song, I can see why so many people’ve recorded.

So you know the question… which do you like better?! And by the way, please add Jazmine’s MySpace! She is dope, seriously! She’s written a lot of songs that you’ve heard on the radio. You just didn’t know that it was her.

WHO SANG IT BETTER? PCD VS. TORI

Friday, September 8, 2006 |

Some of you might not know this, but The Pussycat Dolls were not the first to record the smash single, “Don’tcha.” An Atlanta-based performer and make-up artist, Tori Alamaze, who can be seen and heard singing background for Andre 3000 of OutKast on his smash hit, “Hey Ya” did. Cee-Lo Green wrote and produced the song. The song never quite jumped off and Tori’s album was shelved but when Interscope finally decided to release the Dolls as a full act, they contacted Cee-Lo about re-recording the song, and Cee-Lo wanted to create a strong relationship with the label. So I guess you guys know my next question. Who sang it better?

NOTE: Listen closely and you can hear Cee-Lo on the background vocals, more specifically on Tori Alamaze’s version.
