NEWS ROUNDUP: 5-YEAR-OLD JHESSYE SHOCKLEY IS MISSING / JUDGE APPROVES BLACK FARMERS’ SETTLEMENT

It’s been nearly three weeks since 5-year-old Jhessye Shockley was reported missing in Glendale, Arizona, by her mother, Jerice Hunter, who said she left the kindergartner with Jhessye’s older siblings while she ran an errand. Authorities have received numerous tips regarding the missing child from as far away as Ohio, but continue to “[look] for that break and it just hasn’t come yet”.

Hunter reportedly served three and a half years in a California prison for abusing her other children and was released in May 2010. Family members claim Jhessye may have also been abused. Cousin Mahogany Hightower said that the last time she saw Jhessye at a family barbecue in April, the little girl “cried really bad, telling us she wanted us to take her home. She wanted to go home now. We told her you can’t come home with us now, but you will later. She goes, ‘I can’t go later. I’ve got to go now.’” Hunter, who is eight months pregnant, denied those claims as well as any involvement in Jhessye’s disappearance.

“It is very unfair to ask me that,” she said, her voice rising. “Do I look like I hurt my daughter? Do I look like I hurt my daughter? Do I look like I hurt my daughter?”

Family members have stressed to police that they want them to look at everyone, including Hunter. A cash reward is offered for information regarding Jhessye’s disappearance, and anyone with information is urged to call the Glendale Police Department at 623-930-HELP (4357), the FBI, 911 or any police agency.

NEWS/AWARENESS: UGANDAN LRA SURVIVOR RESPONDS TO LIMBAUGH’S CLAIMS AGAINST OBAMA

Meet Evelyn Apoko. At the age of 9, Apoko was abducted by a violent, rebel group named LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army) and was forced to work as a mule, carrying heavy supplies and food for miles without food and water. One day during usual warfare, Evelyn attempted to protect a child she was carrying, only to expose her head to a nearby bomb. The grenade exploded, disfiguring her face and mouth, leaving her with an incomplete jaw and set of teeth.

Since her escape and relocation to America, doctors have successfully “reconstructed her jaw, removed scars and balanced her lips. In the days to come, Apoko will soon get a new jaw implant, a bone graft and a set of upper teeth.”

What you may not know about this 22-year-old Ugandan woman is that she recently spoke out against political commentator, Rush Limbaugh, after he accused President Obama of sending 100 U.S. military advisers to the Central African Republic to kill the leaders (i.e. Joseph Kony) and members of LRA, an organization that he sees as being Christian:

Now, up until today, most Americans have never heard of the combat Lord’s Resistance Army. Lord’s Resistance Army are Christians. It means God…Lord’s Resistance Army are Christians. They are fighting the Muslims in Sudan. And Obama has sent troops, United States troops to remove them from the battlefield, which means kill them. That’s what the lingo means, “to help regional forces remove from the battlefield,” meaning capture or kill. [Listen]

After hearing Limbaugh’s accusations, the LRA survivor released a heartfelt and sincere video addressing the radio host’s ignorance to the brutal reality of the Ugandan rebel group: Continue

NEWS UPDATE: McDONALD’S WORKER WHO BEAT DOWN UNRULY CUSTOMERS APPEARS IN COURT

RAYON MCINTOSH APPEARS IN A MANHATTAN COURT ON OCTOBER 18TH.

Rayon McIntosh, who is now best known as the former McDonald’s employee that beat down two unruly customers with a metal rod [ VIEW VIDEO HERE ], appeared in a Manhattan Criminal Court on Tuesday (October 18) and argued self defense.

31 year-old McIntosh was seen on video hitting Denise Darbeau and her friend Rachel Edwards, (both 24), with a three-foot-long metal rod (usually used to clean the griddle) after they jumped the counter and went after him. The whole thing sparked after he questioned the validity of a fifty dollar bill they were using.

While in court, his lawyer, Theodore Herlich said this:

it’s very clear [the two women] were coming after my client, who had in effect retreated to the rear part [of the kitchen] and was not seeking a confrontation,” Herlich said, adding that his client didn’t know if the women were armed at the time [ READ MORE ]

Assistant District Attorney Jamie Mendoza partially agreed, but felt he went too far, since one of the “victims” now has a skull fracture and other serious injuries..

“Not only did she curse out the hardworking employees at the McDonald’s working the graveyard shift, but then she did go over the counter into an area which is prohibited to the public. Continue
