On Sunday (Oct. 16), President Barack Obama dedicated the Martin Luther King Memorial after touring the monument with First Lady Michelle Obama, their daughters, Sasha and Malia, and family members of Dr. King.

The event included speeches from noted individuals including Congressman John Lewis, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, among others. Musical and spoken tributes were also made by Mary Mary, Nikki Giovanni, Aretha Franklin (SEE PERFORMANCE VIDEO BELOW) and more.

“An earthquake and hurricane may have delayed this day, but it was a day not to be denied,” the president said, opening his dedication:

For this day, we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s return to the National Mall. In this place, he will stand for all time, among monuments to those who fathered this nation and those who defended it; a black preacher with no official rank or title who somehow gave voice to our deepest dreams and our most lasting ideals, a man who stirred our conscience and thereby helped make our union more perfect. VIDEO: COUNTRY SINGER COMPARES PRESIDENT OBAMA TO HITLER + GETS PULLED FROM ESPN

President Barack Obama is in full swing campaigning for re-election. At a fundraiser event on Tuesday in Dallas, the president predicted he’d win again although an ABC/Washington Post poll suggests the majority thinks he’ll be a one-term president.

Whatever the case may be, it should come as no surprise that opponents, critics and the like will continue taking even more jabs at him. The most notably recent one comes from country singer Hank Williams Jr., who compared President Obama to Adolf Hitler on Monday morning’s Fox and Friends, calling the president and Vice President Joe Biden “the enemy” and commenting that House Speaker John Boehner and the president’s golf game was like “Hitler playing golf with [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu”.

CL TOPIC: MEDIA PROTECTS PRESIDENT OBAMA BECAUSE HE’S BLACK? – WHAT’S YOUR TAKE?

President Barack Obama delivers remarks during the Human Rights Campaign’s 15th Annual National Dinner at the Washington Convention Center on Saturday (October 1) in Washington, DC. The President spoke to one of the leading gay rights groups two weeks after the repeal of the military’s ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy.

In a recent interview with Media Research Center, Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) said that President Barack Obama’s race protects him from criticism from the media.

Reagan was beautiful because Reagan simplified everything, so let’s simplify it. This guy pushed every one of the media’s buttons. He was liberal, he was different, he was new, he was black. Oh my God, it was the potpourri of everything. They are so vested in our first black president not being a failure that it’s going to be amazing to watch the lengths they go to protect him. They [the media], I believe, will spout this racist line if some of their colleagues up here aren’t doing it aggressively enough. There is going to be a real desperation.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) shared similar sentiments at a Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) town-hall, asserting that the CBC doesn’t put pressure on the President because blacks love him, but we want to hear from you on the topic.

POLITICS/VIDEO: PRES. OBAMA PUSHES THE ‘AMERICAN JOBS ACT’ DURING BLACK CAUCUS EVENT

President Barack Obama addresses the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Phoenix Awards this past weekend in Washington, D.C.

During his speech, the President stressed the importance of passing the American Jobs Act, to put more people back to work, and more money back in the pockets of people who are working, read a snippet below:

ON THE JOBS ACT:
We’ve got millions of unemployed Americans and young people looking for work but running out of options. So this jobs bill says, let’s give them a pathway, a new pathway back to work. Let’s extend unemployment insurance so that more than six million Americans don’t lose that lifeline. But let’s also encourage reforms that help the long-term unemployed keep their skills sharp and get a foot in the door. Let’s give summer jobs for low-income youth that don’t just give them their first paycheck but arm them with the skills they need for life.

MESSAGE TO THE BLACK CAUCUS:
With patient and firm determination, I am going to press on for jobs. I’m going to press on for equality. I’m going to press on for the sake of our children. I’m going to press on for the sake of all those families who are struggling right now. I don’t have time to feel sorry for myself. I don’t have time to complain. I am going to press on.

I expect all of you to march with me and press on. Take off your bedroom slippers, put on your marching shoes. Shake it off. Stop complaining, stop grumbling, stop crying. We are going to press on. We’ve got work to do, CBC. [ READ MORE @ WHITEHOUSE.GOV]
