Future first lady Michelle Obama joined Jay Leno on Monday and shared that her husband’s source of strength comes from his ailing grandmother, whom he visited last week.

She’s doing OK, up and down. But we are just grateful that he took time off and went to see her,” Michelle Obama said. She said Barack credits Madelyn Dunham, whom he calls “Toot”, with giving him his strength.

POLITICS/NEWS: TWO CHARGED WITH PLOT / PALIN GONE ROGUE? / TELL BARACK

Tuesday, October 28, 2008 |

Daniel Cowart, 20, and Paul Schlesselman, 18, self-described white supremacists, have been charged with plotting a “killing spree” against blacks and an assassination attempt on Sen. Barack Obama.

Both were charged with illegal possession of a sawed-off shotgun, conspiracy to rob a federally licensed gun dealer and making threats against a presidential candidate.

One law enforcement source said, “We take this very, very seriously but we see no evidence these guys have the ability or the wherewithal to pull off what they say they wanted to do.”

POLITICS/VIDEO: OBAMA’S CLOSING ARGUMENT

Monday, October 27, 2008 |

Senator Obama told voters on Monday that “we are one week away from changing America.” Delivering what his campaign billed as his “closing argument,” Obama told a crowd in Canton, Ohio, that “there’s so much at stake” in the week ahead.

In his speech, Senator Obama told voters that after twenty-one months and three debates, Senator McCain still has not been able to tell the American people a single major thing he’d do differently from George Bush when it comes to the economy. “We cannot let up for one day, one minute, or one second in this last week. Not now,” he said. View the video above or read the transcript.

POLITICS: BIDEN GETS REAL WITH NEWS ANCHOR / OBAMA VISITS AILING GRANDMOTHER + ENDORSEMENTS / AL-QAEDA ENDORSES MCCAIN

Monday, October 27, 2008 |

Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden faced off with Florida news anchor Barbara West in an interview that many view as being right out of McCain’s playbook.

West began the interview asking if Biden was “embarrassed” by Barack Obama’s association with ACORN and then moved on to the claim that Obama wants to “spread the wealth”. Biden, frustrated and angered by West’s insidious questions, asked who was writing them and if the interview was real.

POLITICS: OBAMA ON SNL? / PALIN DENIES $150K CLAIM / BRAVE

Friday, October 24, 2008 |

Barack Obama on Saturday Night Live last year

Word is Barack Obama will appear on the November 1 episode of Saturday Night Live, the last episode before the election. Hopefully he can share a few tips with Fred Armisen who impersonates him regularly.

When asked recently if he was disappointed that the impressions weren’t funny, Obama replied, “I’ve gotta say, compared to Tina Fey and what she’s been doing with Gov. Palin, my imitator isn’t doing as great a job, but I do know my ears have been getting bigger and bigger each episode. I’m sure they’ll get me right over time.”

In related news, Obama is currently in Hawaii visiting his ailing grandmother.

PALIN DENIES $150K CLAIM

In an interview with The Chicago Tribune on Thursday, Sarah Palin denied accepted $150,000 worth of clothes from the Republican Party.

According to Palin, “That whole thing is just, bad! Oh, if people only knew how frugal we are. It’s kind of painful to be criticized for something when all the facts are not out there and are not reported.”

Palin claims the clothes are not worth $150,000 and were bought for the Republican National Convention earlier this year. She added they will either be given back, auctioned or sent to charity. Most of them haven’t even left her plane, she said.

Adding insult to injury, the Huffington Post reports that Palin’s makeup stylist is the highest-paid campaign staffer for the first part of October, earning over $22,000 in just two weeks.

The latest Pew Research Center findings show religious voters are gradually gravitating to Barack Obama as their pick for president. Obama is also leading McCain 51-42 in the latest Gallup poll which tracks the percentage of registered voters who say they would support each candidate if the presidential election were held today.

With a few states already voting early and the U.S. presidential election occurring in less than two weeks, look out for Concrete Loop’s upcoming Voting Etiquette Guide.
