Big K.R.I.T. heads home to Meridian, Miss., in his latest video for “I Got This”, as he also prepares for the release of his Def Jam debut, Live from the Underground, on June 5. Erykah Badu is the second artist featured in the Serato Icon Artist Series, a diverse, hand-picked collection of artists who represent and epitomise the Serato ethos.
In an interview with the popular DJ resource, Badu talked about the hip-hop artists who influenced her musically and dished on the art of being a good DJ, a role she recently took up with the nickname DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown:
Right now we’re in 2012 A.D. where the DJ is now the star because of things like Serato and the need of the tribe (that’s the people) to feel good and feel the music. The DJ is the weatherman. The DJ dictates what the weather is. What we play is how the people feel. I do it fearlessly because I never underestimate the audience’s ability to feel. DJ’ing is a skill and art form. But as a selector, you’ve just narrated the emotions of the crowd. I am becoming a good DJ. I’m a great selector.

With his latest album ‘This Is How I Feel’ finally in stores, Tank celebrated his accomplishment by inviting some of his fans out for a night of food, drinks and pampering. Held at the Hair Rules salon in New York City, a number of his female fans made it out to his Rémy Martin-sponsored event.
The album release was hosted by natural hair vlogger Taren Guy and the ladies were serenaded by the R&B singer while they got their complimentary eyelashes done. CL’s Christine Imarenezor had a moment to speak with Tank about his new album and he simply described his fifth studio album as “a compilation of a lot of great feelings.”

On Wed., May 9, President Barack Obama announced his support of same-sex marriage during an interview with ABC’s Robin Roberts, which will air in full on Thursday’s Good Morning America. The President described his thought process as an “evolution” which led him to his decision, based on conversations with First Lady Michelle Obama, their daughters, Sasha and Malia, as well as gay and lesbian staff and service members.
I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors, when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together; when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married.
While 30 states have banned same-sex marriage, the President stressed that his views are a personal position and he supports states’ rights to decide on the issue. He adds, though, that he thinks more Americans will grow more comfortable with same-sex marriage, commenting on his daughters’ take on it:
