Remember his album is in stores now, so go out and take a listen.
Tianna: Hey Bobby V?
Bobby: Yes?!
Tianna: Hey, How are you doing?
Bobby: Hey, I’m fine, how are you?
Tianna: I’m doing well. I know we got you at a crazy time while you’re getting out of the airport and everything.
Bobby: Nooo, I’m actually still in the airport…
Tianna: Oh, really? Wow, thanks for taking the time to do this interview then.
Bobby: Well, you know you guys are very important.
Tianna: Your album just released this week, how are you feeling?
Bobby: I feel real good you know? I feel like it could’ve been promoted a little better but, you know it’s the hottest album of the year…hottest r&b album of the year guaranteed.
Tianna: What can we expect differently with “Special Occassion” compared to your last solo album? It’s been what, two years?
Bobby: Yep. You can just expect an album you can ride to from beginning to the end. I got a ten songs guarantee with this album so, I’m guaranteeing that the people are going to like ten songs on this album.
Tianna: (laughs) Alright. And on this album, you work with a lot of hot producers like Timbaland, Rodney Jerkins, B. Cox. Talk about your experience a little bit, working with these guys. Did they really allow you to get your creative juices flowing?
Bobby: Yea. You know, just working with them – I had to definitely add my little Bobby V seasoning salt on everything so the album could flow properly. I was ecited to work with all the producers I worked with, they were all my favorites so, it was alot of fun working with all of them.
Tianna: Ok. Now before you hit the scene by yourself – we knew you from the group Mista. So, what’s up with those guys – do you still talk to your exbandmates from time to time?
Bobby: Yea, actually I just had a show a few weeks ago and I brought them out on stage and we did “Blackberry Molasses” together.
Tianna: Whaaaaaaaaat?! Where was this?
Bobby: This was in Atlanta.
Tianna: Oh Ok, that’s hot!
Bobby: Yea, I brought them out on stage and the crowd went crazy and it was a good look…and we still sound the same, as we did back in the day.
Tianna: Oh that’s great, I would love to see that. You should do a little tour with them.
Bobby: A tour with them? I don’t think we would be bold enough to really do a tour.
Tianna: Ha, ya never know! What’s the latest going on with the DTP family? I hear there is a project in the works…is that true?
Bobby: Yea, we’re doing a DTP compilation – I think it’s coming out about in the summer time. But, I’ve just been really working on this album “Special Occasion” and it’s in stores now so, I’m really just trying to all i can to just hype the awareness you know?
Tianna: Ok. I saw you on 106 & Park with a pair of Bobby V jeans?
Bobby: Yea…
Tianna: What’s going on with that? What’s up with Bobby in fashion?
Bobby: Well you know I’m a very fashionable person…
Tianna: I see!
Bobby: I got my Bobby V jeans for women coming real soon that I’m working on.
Tianna: Yea, they want to know when is it going to be in stores? Do you know?
Bobby: Well, I’m starting them off slow. They’re going to be like some specialty jeans…
Tianna: Like in boutiques and stuff?
Bobby: Yea, we’re going to start them off in boutiques and then we’re going to move them out to different stores and stuff.
Tianna: Now I have a few questions from the fans that come to Concreteloop. One of your fans wanted to know which do you love more – performing live or recording in the studio. Also, are you going on tour anytime soon?
Bobby: Well, I love doing both but I would say the creative side is really, really what I love to do. Actually, I think I love both of them same but, being in the studio – coming up with different ideas and conjuring up things – it can stand out a little bit more than performing live. But, it’s not much of a difference. And, hopefully I will be going on tour this summer.
Tianna: A fan mentioned a in Vibe article, you compared yourself to some of the other guys that’s out in r&b now…
Bobby: I’ve NEVER compared myself to anybody out now…
Tianna: You never compared yourself, oh ok we’re going to get that one straight.
Bobby: yes
Tianna: So, how do you feel about your competition and how do you feel about r&b music in general today?
Bobby: I feel like, to me – there isn’t any competition. You know? I feel like they do what they do, and I feel like I do what I do. I just feel like we’re all trying to bring r&b back and you got some guys out there that’s really doing their thing so congratulations to all of them that’s bringing r&b back. But, I’m trying to bring it back as well and I’m not really into competition. i think if you listen to my album and listen to theirs, you’ll hear a slight difference.
Tianna: What musicians would you love to work with and collaborate with in the future?
Bobby: Like a Pharrell, a R. Kelly, someone like that. I’ve pretty much worked with all the musicians I wanted to work with. those are the last two that I want to work with. So, I really want to get them on this next album, on my third album.
Tianna: Your female fans want to know are you single? And if you can a sista holla?
Bobby: yes, I’m single and yes a sista can holla.
Tianna: What qualities do you look for in a woman because some of the sistas felt like you ain’t really have no love for them based off of past interviews or comments you have said. They seem to think that you have like, a slight color complex or something?
Bobby: Ummmm, I don’t know where that came from. I want somebody to find the interview where it said that I didn’t like dark-skinned sistas because I like sistas off all shades, colors, nationalities, shapes and sizes. I don’t discriminate.
Tianna: yea there was an Ozone magazine interview a couple of years ago and they quoted you as saying something about mixed girls being easier that black girls…
Bobby: They took what I said the wrong way, I didn’t say it like that.
Tianna: Ok good.
Bobby: And I think they wrote it the wrong way, how I stated it.
Tianna: Good, we got that clarified because I know you make all that love music, you gotta love everybody right?
Bobby: Yeaaaa!
Tianna: Where do you see yourself five years from now? How do you feel about your solo career thus far?
Bobby: Im’ma be running my own label, have my own artists, Bobby V jeans should be crackin’ and I’ll still be doing albums. And hopefully, I’ll be doing some acting…
Tianna: Yea, I wanted to ask you about that ? Are you really interested in doing the acting thing because there are a lot of musicians that switch over, plus Luda – who is really doing his thing in Hollywood right now. Does that give you a little inspiration?
Bobby: Yea definitely you know? But, you have to be really focused to do that so, if I do it I want to be the best at it. I’m really going to go study the whole craft instead of just saying I want to just be an actor.
Tianna: Last but, not least Bobby can you give a quick shout out to your fans at Concreteloop.com?
(does shout out)
Tianna: Alright thank you so much Bobby, it was a pleasure speaking with you.
Bobby: Thank you.
Tianna: I wish you the best with all your endeavors.
Bobby: You need to go get the album too…
Tianna: Oh forreal? Ok I’ll see about the album then.
Bobby: No I need you to get it today. I’m guaranteeing you’re gonna love this stuff.
Tianna: I am?
Bobby: Yeaaaaa
Tianna: Ok, I’ll take your word for it….
Bobby: (laughs)
