EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW w/ CHRISETTE MICHELE

If you can’t hear the audio, please update your flash player. Thank you.

You might know 24 year-old Chrisette Michele’s powerful vocals from such hits as Jay-Z’s “Lost One” or Nas’ “Can’t Forget About You” but this soulful singer is coming out with her own album “I AM’ on June 19th.

The singer sat down with concreteloop.com this week for an exclusive interview. Home girl even reads the blog and sets one of the commenters straight! The full audio is above, or you can read it. So make sure you check it out…

Angel: Hi Chrisette
Chrisette: Hi, How are you?
Angel: Pretty good. Thank you for taking the time to sit with me.
Chrisette: No doubt.
Angel: First off, I want to congratulate you on your upcoming album. I love your sound, so I can’t wait to hear the new album.
Chrisette: Thank you.

CHRISETTE MICHELE (1) Angel: My first question is how did u end up signing up with Def Jam?
Chrisette: Um, I don’t know [laughs]. I guess they found me, from a bunch of piles of.. What are those things called?
Angel: Demos?
Chrisette: You put it in an envelope and your names in it and your c.d. is in it…
Angel: A Demo. [laughs]
Chrisette: [laughs] Yeah, a big pile of demos & pictures. You don’t really hear that that much right now. But they actually looked through their piles and an assistant at Def Jam came onto it and gave it to Shalik Berry. He came and saw me perform, and a little while later I had an audition with L.A. Reid, and I was signed that third day.

Angel: Oh Ok. So your album is entitled ‘I AM’ how did you go about picking a title?
Chrisette: You know.. I wrote every song on the album and the thing I couldn’t come up with was a title for the album and that’s pretty crazy. But a bunch of people kept emailing me saying, “this is a good one” and “this is a good one.” And Finally somebody, Amber Nobal emailed me and said “How about ‘I Am’”
Angel: un huh
Chrisette: I looked at it for a few minutes and I said that makes sense, and I just went with it.

Angel: Your sound is really old school like Classical Jazz, mixed with Blues, mixed with Soul, mixed with a lot of different stuff. So, what would you, rather, who would you describe your influences as?
Chrisette: my influences are definitely Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Sarah Vaughn, which I incorporate into my live show. And then Lauryn Hill was definitely a great influence of mines when she came out, as well as Erykah Badu. I say those five people had the greatest influence on me.
Angel: Yeah, I saw that video on Youtube when you were singing that Billie Holiday song and I was like whoaaaa..
Chrisette: [happy] ooooOOh nooo
Angel: That was good, I was like whoa, you sound just like her..
Chrisette: [laughs] Cool.

Angel: Okay, so what producers and collaborators did you work with on this album?
Chrisette: I worked with Will.I.Am, John Legend, Babyface, Kelvin Wooten, Jazz, and I produced on the album as well.

CHRISETTE MICHELE (2) Angel: So, who produced ‘Good Girl’ because that is my new jam.
Chrisette: Thank you. Um, Salam Remy he did Lauryn Hill’s first album.
Angel: Oh ok, that makes sense because that song is fly.
Chrisette: Yes, Salam Remy..
Angel: Can you bust the chorus for ‘Good Girl’ for my visitors..
Chrisette: [sings the chorus]
Angel: Ut oh! Thank you. [laughs]
Chrisette: Your welcome.

Angel: So how was it working with Jay-Z and Nas?
Chrisette: Scary. I was very scared to work with Jay-Z. You know sometimes every once in awhile, in life, you say ‘Why would I get the opportunity to do this.”
Angel: Yeah
Chrisette: So I didn’t know what he saw in me. So I didn’t know what part of myself to give. But when we got there, I literally recorded four hooks in the studio and he ended up liking one. So, like I said it was just very scary. He is very meticulous – he knows what he wants. So it was very scary. But Nas wasn’t in the studio. Basically, his manager called me while I was in the studio in New York City and told me what the song was about. Had me listen to it, and I basically just wrote what I felt and handed it in and they liked it. I also got to write two other songs on his [Nas] album, which was very cool, and sing another hook. So

Angel: Ok. You said Jay-Z is very meticulous, but obviously he thought you were good enough to put on a hook so I guess you got the stamp of approval right?
Chrisette: I’m still thinking in my head, “You really like this.” You know like for real? [Both of us laugh].

Angel: So what type of music do you listen to?
Chrisette: Classical & Jazz and a lot of Adult contemporary. I listen to everything, hip-hop, country..everything.
Angel: Ok, so a very eclectic mix of stuff.
Chrisette: Yeah. Mostly Jazz and Classical – but yeah I listen to everything.

Angel: So, how do you feel about the whole music scene right now? Because we basically got a lot of pretty girls that can’t really sing their way out of a run-down strip club..
Chrisette: [laughs]
Angel: So how do you feel about the music scene right now?
Chrisette: We have a lot of wonderful dancers.
Angel: [laughs] What about singers though?
Chrisette: .. A lot of great choreography. A lot of very healthy people, and that’s wonderful. We have a great dance culture right now and I think that is a lot of fun for the young people to emulate when they watch it on television. We have a lot of cool outfits, but I don’t think we have a lot of singers right now.
Angel: We sure don’t. So, how are you gonna add on to this then? Because you’re a singer so you gotta find you way into the mix.
Chrisette: How do I find my mix into the dance scene that’s on right now?
Angel: Yeah, because you know that’s the mainstream thing right now. How you gonna find your way into this mix of dancers and people who can’t basically sing, when you actually have some concrete talent.
Chrisette: I have no idea. I have no idea, and it was never my plan to try and fit in. It was just a plan to be myself and see what happens. When I got signed to the label, I was like, “WORD?” [both of us laugh] So I don’t know. God’s favor is taking me places, so I just want to see what God is doing and leave it up to him. Because I have no idea sista, no idea.
Angel: Keep doing you and you don’t have to worry about anything.
Chrisette: Thank you.

CHRISETTE MICHELE (3) Angel: Ok, so here go some random questions that some of my visitors wanted to ask you. First off, we read that you had a crush on John Legend, which you said you worked with him on your album just a minute ago..
Chrisette: I READ THAT TOO! And you know what’s interesting, is that when I was talking to the great and beautiful woman that I was speaking to that day. I don’t recall saying that I had a crush on John Legend.
Angel: [laughs]
Chrisette: But if I did, my rebuttal is who doesn’t have a crush on John Legend? Like, he’s gorgeous.
Angel: That’s true.
Chrisette: But I did get to work with him, and he was very very kind. And that’s all we did was work together. We met up. I think that same interview had a picture of he and I in Miami, where we sang together. So he is on my album, so we have collaborated and there will be performances of he and I together, but that’s inevitable. If people like to decide that I have a crush on John Legend they can do so. But I don’t recall saying such.
Angel: So, are you currently dating someone in the music industry? Or dating anyone in general?
Chrisette: [pause] I decided not to really go into detail about my dating life..
Angel: Ok. I can respect that.
Chrisette: thank you.

Angel: So I noticed that Amy Winehouse is in your top friends on myspace and do you plan on working with her in the future or did you work with her on this album?
Chrisette: It’s one of my plans to work with her in the future. She is an artist who I respect, because I think that she has a great voice. I think that she has a wonderful sound. I think that her lyrics are very daring. She sings a song about how she’s drunk and they wanted her to go to rehab and she said no. Her music is just fun to listen to, and very interesting. I just respect her as an artist.

Angel: Ok, I got a question from one of my commenters. I didn’t want to ask you – but since you seem cool, and I got the vibe that you might wanna clear it up. One of my commenters said, her name is Toya and she said she worked for Shalik Berry. And she claimed that she was the one that found your demo and helped push your music at Def Jam and she wanted to know why you dissed her once you got signed.
Chrisette: She is the assistant to Shalik Berry, and I guess she gave him my music when she found it. She came and listened to me sing at The Village Underground, she was very kind - did she really use the word diss?
Angel: She basically said why did you forget about her and her partner when they worked with your manager. She didn’t say diss, I just said diss myself, but she basically said why did you forget about her and her partner when she the one who helped find your demo and push it at Def Jam.
Chrisette: Well you can let Toya know, that at this current moment, I’m late on my car note. I still live at home with mom. The label pays for me to get my hair and nails done. So the same people who aren’t providing her with any money right now. Aren’t providing me any money right now. And if I could pay her in anyway I would, but I don’t have anything to give her. So I don’t know what she’d like. Perhaps a thank you, which she will get that on the cd cover.
Angel: Oh ok. Well thank you for clearing that up. And I’ll make sure to put that in the interview.

CHRISETTE MICHELE (5) Angel: All right let me change the subject to something more fun. So, what’s your favorite movie?
Chrisette: Say again, I’m sorry.
Angel: What’s your favorite movie?
Chrisette: My favorite movie, um, Clueless.
Angel: Favorite song?
Chrisette: Ordinary people, I guess.
Angel: Favorite food.
Chrisette: pizza, baked macaroni and cheese.
Angel: You got any guilty pleasures like shows you watch that you don’t want nobody to know about. Or books you read or something like that?
Chrisette: Oh boy. The only thing I can think of is that I stare at people. But that’s not really a guilty pleasure.
Angel: Yeah, everybody does that. [laughs]
Chrisette: I don’t get any pleasure in it, it’s just something that’s weird that I do. Jill Scott people watches when she writes her music. She’ll sit in the park and she’ll just watch people and they’ll inspire her. So that’s something that I do. But I don’t think that I have any guilty pleasure right now.
Angel: Well since you brought up Jill Scott. Everytime we post pictures of you on the site, a lot of people say you favor her. Do you get a lot of compliments about your music as well, do you think you sound like her?
Chrisette: People say that I do. It was never my intention to try and sound like her. Actually, I didn’t have any cd’s until I was about seventeen or eighteen. So most of my musical influences come from the church, that I was raised in. So people say that and it is a compliment and I appreciate it.

Angel: Ok, in the next part of the interview, I’m just going to say like two words and you gotta pick one of them. For example, the first one is..
Angel: Usher or Justin Timberlake?
Chrisette: [loud laugh] Justin Timber… oh man. Justin Timberlake. [laughs]

Angel: Jay-Z or Nas?
Chrisette: [loud laughs] Dag. [inaudible comments] Dag..
Angel: You can say both if you want to. I’ll be nice. You can say both if you want to.
Chrisette: The truth of the matter is, you wanna know the truth?
Angel: Yeah the truth if you want. Yeah, keep it real.
Chrisette: If I wasn’t on they c.d.’s yet, and I didn’t know any of them. I probably would say Nas.
Angel: okay, okay. [laughs]

Angel: Mercedes or BMW?
Chrisette: I drive a Mercedes. Mercedes.

Angel: Real World or College Hill?
Chrisette: Real World

Angel: New York or L.A.?
Chrisette: Dag, those are my two spots. I guess you make more money in L.A. L.A.

Angel: Burger King or McDonalds?
Chrisette: Neither.
Angel: [laughs]

Angel: Pepsi or Coca-Cola?
Chrisette: Pepsi

CHRISETTE MICHELE (4) Angel: Freddie Kruger or Jason?
Chrisette: Dag, they both scary. Jason.

Angel: Gold or silver?
Chrisette: Gold.

Angel: MTV or BET
Chrisette: Dang, this is where my fans choose if they gon like me or not. [both of us laugh]. Oh she don’t like us. You know what, I’ll say MTV, ‘cause they support all races.
Angel: Ok, that’s good. Well that was the last one anyway.

Angel: So do you wanna say anything to your fans or shout anyone out? Because I know my time is almost up.
Chrisette: I wanna give a shout out to Long Island.

Angel: And one more thing. Would you mind doing a drop for me on the site? Like say something like, “this is Chrisette Michele on concreteloop.com.”
Chrisette: Okay, you want me to say it now?
Angel: Yeah, I’m ready.
Chrisette: This is Chrisette Michele on Concreteloop.com
Angel: thank you.
Chrisette: OH, WAIT A SECOND! I just went on Concreteloop.com.
Angel: For real?
Chrisette: And I read these peoples things.
Angel: You read some of the comments or questions?
Chrisette: Yes, and I was very tempted to write back. But I read that I was gonna have a interview..
Angel: Did you see any questions that you wanted to answer that I didn’t ask?
Chrisette: Let me think for one second. Oh, somebody said, this is me about to be ghetto. So this will be me supporting my ghetto side.
Angel: Okay
Chrisette: Somebody said she needs to lose weight so she can become more marketable or something like that.
Angel: Okay.
Chrisette: I just want to let that person know that I’m very very excited about being my size in this industry. Because the average woman size in America is a 14.
Angel: That’s true.
Chrisette: So at this particular moment, I am an average woman. And if you don’t know what an average woman looks like, you need to open your eyes and look again. That’s all.
Angel: Okaay.
Chrisette: Whoever said that really played they self. I was like, I bet your girl was my size. But anyway.
Angel: [laughs] Imma make sure to add that too.
Chrisette: yeah.

Angel: well thank you for taking the time out to talk with me.
Chrisette: Okay. Concreteloop Rocks.
Angel: Thank you.
Chrisette: Have a good day.
Angel: You too.

I like that she keeps it real and says what she wants to say, without trying to impress anyone. There is no realness these days. Celebs say what they want the public to hear. Like some Commercial people that will use every question to try to sell you some shit. she is very eloquent and I like that about her.

Okay, Chrisette responded to my “marketable” comment. I still think she needs to drop a few pounds, but now I might actually listen to her music because she kept it real. I didnt even know size 14 was the average woman’s size.

Nice interview too. I was entertained.

i read the interview and she seemed real and down to earth. i’m glad that she’s confident about her size i don’t think she’s heavy, but whatever she has talent and a great voice. we need to go back to where people can sing and not just look like uniformed barbie dolls, i will support your album when it comes out. i notice that society, as well as, the industry think that thick women represent all thick women, hopefully they would focus on the individual’s talent more so than how they look.

She and Amy Winehouse are such Nas stans lol. Nas had an album called I Am as well.

I see the Jill comparisons but for some reason she reminds me of a younger hip Ella Fitzgerald.

Great interview, she kept it real.

That’s why I love the girl, she’s honest, cool and respectful. I’m so feeling her personality!! Plus, she puts mofos in their place with class LMAO. That’s what I keep saying about people criticizing celebs looks, do you look better or does your significant other looks better?? I bet his girl is her size too LMAO!!!!!

I’m glad she cleared that up about that Toya girl, obviously it is a misunderstanding and she was gonna be listed in the cover’s “thank yous” anyway.

Great interview!!

INDUSTRY INSIDER

Wednesday, May 16, 2007 /

Brilliant interview, this is what the industry needs at the moment. I hope she is pushed with all the force and budget power they have. This is possibly the turning point in recent music

A bit like the Neo Soul resurgence.

Omigosh!!! she actually greww up listening to and being influenced by real music. She “wouldnt f known who Nas or Jay Z was” man tat was a breath of frESH AIR she is so untainted and REAL

I love her mindset.

yes, I’ll definitely be supporting this movement. i love her personality, honesty, and her respect to music(she actually can sing). and she doesn’t need to lose no weight…everybody doesn’t need to be a stick figure. if she gets promoted like she should and the cd has quality material…then she should be straight! It seems Def Jam has given Rihanna the whole promotion budget for 07/08! Even Ne-Yo didn’t get that much.LOL

Wednesday, May 16, 2007 /

whoever thought she needed to lose weight is a victim to the media’s warped perception of what people should look like, i dont know where you all live, but when i walk down the street everybody doesn’t have perfect bodies

when you keep buying into these unrealistic images and start placin them on everybody else they have done their job, what should anyone’s weight have to do with their talent? what kinda sense would it make to buy or not buy someone’s music because of their size, that’s very shallow

anyway i thought it was a nice interview and good girl is a wonderful song

Wednesday, May 16, 2007 /

She’s mad gorgeous so she is marketable.

How did she diss Latoya??…I feel that if I do something genuinely nice for a person then I should NOT expect anything in return.
That means it didn’t come from the heart. I rather have favor then a hook up…there’s a difference

Favor is the desire someone has to help you succeed. It is when someone has a desire to participate in your future. We need those who can take us to where we haven’t been. Clearly, the other chick had her own selfish motives…but God will use anybody to get who he wants to be in a position where they deserve to be.

Chrisette stay humble

Good interview

Chrisette, thanks for not going into details of our dating life…! That’s nobodies business but ours! And, to the fool who wanted to know about the size 14…well, I love her just the way she is!

I love her size 14 and she loves my 14″ size! hehe!

Great interview! Very professional, showing folks how to act!

I really like this girl! She was so elegant and articulate. I love when people can speak and actually say something that makes sense.

Even when she was clowniong people (i.e. the dancers Ciara and ‘nem), she said what she needed to say in a very diplomatic way.

Her voice is wonderful. Her spirit is divine. She’ll go far!

To Angel, I think you do a cool job with interviews but one can always be better. To achieve, this, I think you should moniter the filler words that you use (ummm, un huh, so okay, etc.) that way you come off more polished.

Also, it is imperative that you follow up with what a person has just said. I think you are following your script too closely. Let the interviewee lead you into the next question sometimes. For instance, ask why and how so.

Lastly, ask the hard questions sometimes. Not just the fluff stuff.

Just a thing that needs to be said : there’s a difference between THICK (Chrisette) and obese (what Kelly Price used to be). Thick people are HEALTHY, obese people are not, so leave Chrisette alone about this cause she’s beautiful and healthy the way she is.

I SMELL A HATER

Wednesday, May 16, 2007 /

hey Hood_shit (#37), of course every interview could get better, but this was by far one of Angel’s better interviews. Obviously you didn’t listen to it, because you can tell some of those questions weren’t scripted and she was going with the “vibe.” Chrisette seemed real relaxed with her. She even asked her about that one girl being dissed, how is that not a hard question?

I personally love Angel’s interview style because it reminds me that she’s real and “one of us.” Not some boogie-ass interviewer that the label paid to talk to an artist. Not to mention these interviews are time sensitive, so how she going to ask “how so” on everydamnthing?

She is only 22 (or 21 I think) and to be doing this while in college is admirable. So quit hating. Good Job Angel!

Oh and I’m coping that C.M. album when it comes out; just because of this interview.

I don’t think the dancer comment was for Beyonce because Beyonce is not a real dancer with choreographies (booty shaking doesn’t count), people are more impressed with her voice.

the whole dance thing was an indirect diss at ciara because she is the only mainstream, commmercial, successful female artist right now that dances and is acknowledge for how good she is at that craft. Of course there is janet and mya, but ciara is the only one right now.

POP music will always be POPular/mainstream, so if chrissette is a jazz/blues/soul singer, she can bet that she won’t have to compete with the ciara’s or beyonce’s because jazz/blues is not really POPular or impactful in the media or on the youth of today.

Why can’t everyone just take music for what it is? Ciara can sing, but I think she gets so much hate because she is not a SOUL singer persay; NOT every black female has to be a SOUL/RNB singer, why can’t they be pop/alternative singers?

I love chrisette’s first single “good girl” that song is my jam right now. I hope she is succesful because i think she is talented and she has a unique voice.

THE THING IS THAT CHRISETTE ISNT TRYING TO PLAY MAINSTREAM R&B SINGERS. AS YOU SEE EVERYONE WANTS TO DANCE NOWADAYS AND THEY DONT REALLY LISTEN TO WHATS REAL. DJ UNK?? 2 STEP……SNAP YOUR FINGERS AND LEAN BACK……PEOPLE NOW PREFER LISTENING TO CAM’RON OVER A NAS. MY COUSIN ONCE TOLD ME THAT JUELZ SANTANA WAS BETTER A BETTER MC THAN JAY-Z. WTF.

ANYWAY CHRISETTE WILL DO VERY WELL IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY. SHE IS A SWEET AND UNIQUE PERSON. PEOPLE WHO KNOW HER WILL TELL YOU THAT SHE IS THE SAME PERSON THAT SHE WAS YEARS AGO MINUS THE RECORD DEAL. SHE STILL STRUGGLES LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. GOD GOT HER WHERE SHE IS AND SHE WILL ALWAYS RISE TO THE TOP BECAUSE OF IT.

GO AHEAD CHRISSY AND DO YOUR THANG! LOVE YA

I smell a flop. Chrisette, your damn CD comes out in a month. I have not heard shit except for CL and that free download on iTunes. Rhinna’s CD has been getting promoted for months.

Uh huh. You should have signed with Hidden Beach if this is your style; at least they promote neo-soul.

Can’t we have Ciara AND Chrisette? ancing and music videos are a beautiful part of music culture too, look at Michael and Janet Jackson. I love this girl even more now though, I’m getting her album without a doubt, the collabos and her voice sound awesome!

P.S. To be anal about it Salaam Remi didn’t produce Lauryn’s first album, he produced “Fu-Gee-La” for The Fugees and he also produced half of Amy Winehouse’s album (and a few on her debut “Frank”) more recently. I always thought “Good Girl” was a Dr. Dre/Mark Batson production. Either way it’s H-O-T!

You know what Im going to be honest and keep it real. I love reading concreteloop.com because it brings alot of entertainment into my life, that is lacking. But when I go to read the comments that readers make up here, the majority of the comments I read are very disrespectful, and it seems as though half of you’ll live your lives putting down other people. I commend the people up here who leave positive comments. Those people aren’t ignorant to the fact that, we need to start bringing each other up as a people, instead of always “sticking one another out”.. I feel like people especially in this generation today make it seem as if it is a “TABOO” to make a MISTAKE, TO BE OVERWEIGHT, TO BE POOR, TO HAVE SHORT HAIR/LONG HAIR, DAMN TO JUST BE DIFFERENT…

I liked Chrisette a lot before this interview and now I’m indifferent about her. I would never choose MTV over BET after the way they treated Janet Jackson after nipplegate. Especially because years before that, they had presented her with the award as a MTV ICON. And the situation Justin Timberlake left her in? All blacks should be ashamed for supporting him in any fashion. The dancer comment was a bit irrelevant. We already know there are a lot of “singers” with no talent, but the fact of the situation is, no matter how great a voice, no one is going to sit through a concert with just a singer and a mic. It’s all marketing and it has obviously worked for the J.Lo’s and Ciara’s and Jackson’s.

I’m sort of excited about her album. She’s sweet but definately not afraid to speak her mind lol. I guess I wasn’t the only who thought of Ciara the moment she talked about artists who just dance lol. But Ciara really can sing, and yes it true that she may be very popular for her dance/performance, but she does take alot of bullshit for not being a SOUL singer, not being able to belt out so much like Fanny or Bey. Probably more hate than Rihanna/Cassie, who just can’t sing at all, recieve. Which I honestly don’t understand why, but whatever. Do your thang Ms. Chrissette.

Thursday, May 17, 2007 /

Oh please it wasn’t a personal diss at Ciara. She was just speaking in general, Ciara or Mya, etc, chicks who can’t sing to save their lives but are incredible dancers. And for the males we have Omarion or Chris Brown great dancers terrible singers, then you have John Legend who doesn’t dance but is an incredible VOCALIST.

She did state that we are a dancing culture so she’s not HATING ON anyone she just implied there should be room for everyone. And even if the POP culture is more popular, if Alicia Keys and John Legend made it (they’re more successful than most “rnb/pop” acts) there’s room for old school artists like Chrisette because there’s a public for that music, so she definitely can make it big.

THERE ARE ALOT OF HATERS ON CONCRETELOOP. FOR ONE I DONT RESPECT BET OVER MTV EITHER. BET HAS GOTTEN VERY WATERED DOWN. I WATCH VH1 SOUL MORE THAN I WATCH ANYTHING ON BET. WHATEVER HAPPENED TO TEEN SUMMIT??? WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE SHOWS THEY HAD ON TO FEED THE MINDS OF BLACK CHILDREN. EVERYTIME I LOOK AT BET IT SEEMS LIKE I AM LOOKING AT AN EPISODE OF BET UNCUT. ALL YOU SEE ON BET IS BLACK PEOPLE ACTING AN ASS (COLLEGE HILL). BET CARES MORE ABOUT RATINGS. I DONT WATCH BET (MINUS THE GOSPEL AND BET JAZZ).

THERE IS A GROUP CALLED LITTLE BROTHER. A HIP HOP GROUP THAT BET DOESNT EVEN PLAY. THEY ACTUALLY SAID IT ON THEIR ALBUM. IM TIRED OF GOING ON BET AND SEEING THE SAME THANG OVER AND OVER. I RATHER WATCH VH1 SOUL WHO HAS A GREAT CATALOG OF SINGERS WHO DONT GET AS MUCH EXPOSURE.

AND TO JOSH R. CHRISETTE WAS ON TWO OF THE BIGGEST NAMES IN HIP HOP ALBUMS LAST YEAR. SHE IS GETTING EXPOSURE. JUST BECAUSE YOU DONT SEE HER DANCING NAKED ON STAGE AT A BET RIP THE RUNWAY SHOW DOESNT MEAN SHE ISNT GETTING EXPOSURE.

DAMN……..I SWEAR BLACKS HATE ON BLACKS VERY HARD. WE AS A CULTURE NEED TO CHANGE ALOT ABOUT US.

I definatly can not wait for Chrisette M. cd. I’m so tired of seeing women in skimpy outfits showing off pratically everything God gave them. She is a true artist. If you put her against todays singers in a pair of jeans, tshirt, and a ponytail, you will see alot of these “singers” are not quite where they think they are vocally. God bless you Chrisette and thank you for sharing your gift with me. Im not sure how long you’ve been trying to break into the business, but now that you’re Please Don’t Change. This is coming from a real woman. A lot of singers out like Beyonce started out promising they wouldn’t do this n that. And now….I don’t even have to say anymore. I’m just saying if you read this, know that being you is a beautiful thing and you are unique!!!

I just love how she kept it real. Cant be mad about that. I will definitely get her CD. She isn’t one of those fake ones that says one thing then does another. But if she start shedding pounds after saying she’s content with her size I will wonder about her then.

I’m a believer man. Chrisette is a beast, the album cover is refreshing, and it is CLEAR she is a REAL woman! Beautiful! I don’t buy cds usually, but i might hit this one up in June.

Some idiot said she was hating on the other “singers” in the industry with her comments. she was not hating on the “dancers” that are clearly and sadly runnin things in the R&B world. Can you honestly say that half of these girls can really sing good ol’ soul r&b? kassie, ciera, rihanna, etc.? Pop fluff, that’s what that mess is! If she don’t watch it, Beyonce might plunge into this category as well.Chris was asked her opinion and answered it with class! I’m sure home girl WANTED to say “No, these heffers can’t SING! Are you crazy????”

trying to fit into this bullshit industry would be suicide for Chrisette’s career. this realness is gonna get home girl far! Don’t change for NOBODY, Chrisette!

SHE KEEPS IT REAL!!
Well you can let Toya know, that at this current moment, I’m late on my car note.

Favourite Movie? Clueless??
Hmmmmm Okay

DREA

Wednesday, May 23, 2007 /

Chrisette Michelle has a voice reminiscent of the older days when music was conveyed from a REAL place within the soul. She has a song called MY JOY. It’s amazing. Folkish style…very simple. But you can tell that she knows the love of a father…Unfortunately I can’t relate but her song made me want my daughter to have that joy.

Her weight might be an issue for industry people…but it isn’t an issue for Jennifer Hudson or Queen Latifah! And even if it was why can’t we just be positive and hope that it won’t be for her. She’s cute, she has style, she’s talented and she has some depth to her.

I celebrate you Chrisette. “we ask ourselves who are we to be brilliant, talented, gorgeous and fabulous. Actually who are we not to be”.

Chrisette is what the industry needs.

LOOK OUT FOR DREA, “A GIFT 2 BE HEARD”…Peace

Hey Ms. Chrisette sounds amazing and she is extremely pretty. Thats cool that she reads CL. But yeah I really like her black version of christina aguilara style. Christina’s latest album has a very classical feel to it and I like them both. And Don’t loose or gain weight Ms. Chrisette. YOU ARE PERFECT! I mean really you are beautiful.
