EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW w/ RIHANNA
RIHANNA SHOUTING OUT CONCRETELOOP AND THE VISITORS
I had the pleasure of interviewing Rihanna last week, who was very sweet. We addressed her new look, sound, and how she feels about these crazy rumors people like to put her in.
I could not include everyone’s questions, including the hundred referring to Beyonce. I mean, we can give that a rest seeing how the UK blasted Bee’s name on Ri-Ri’s album cover already. But, thank you guys for really submitting to this one.
Now lets see if all of you same people will go pick up “Good Girl Gone Bad” today…
—————-
Tianna: Lets start off with the obvious - we see you have a new look and a new sound for “Good Girl Gone Bad”. What prompted this change?
Rihanna: This change was just really an expression of how I’m feeling right now - in my life and in my career. I felt like I had enough of being forced into a particular image and sound, that’s why I call the album “Good Girl Gone Bad” because I really didn’t care anymore. I just wanted to do what I wanted to do and this is who I am now.
Tianna: Let’s talk more about your new album, what were some of your music influences for this record, compared to your last two albums? I’ve read a couple of reviews that have stated it has more of an alternative sound, so how would you describe the overall vibe of this album?
Rihanna: I would say, its a very edgy album. It’s hard to categorize it in a specific genre because it’s so diverse. Every song has a different element of a different genre. We got rock influences, we got Caribbean influences, some pop in there, as well as a 80s vibe in it. It’s a really cool sounding album, its fun and very entertaining - every song takes you to a different place and that’s what I love about it.
Tianna: How crazy was it to work with Jay on your first single - and THEN have him show up in your video? How was it working with the boss?
Rihanna: Absolutely a honor. Like…even saying it right now, hearing you say that makes me feel good because people go thorough their career dreaming of a collaboration with Jay Z and hear I am - my first single on my third album. It was perfect timing, the perfect song to do with him and just being on the video set, it had me tripped out a little bit because it was like “wow, I’m shooting a video with Jay Z”. it’s crazy!
Tianna: Right…
Rihanna: And I have to perform with him in a few days at the MTV Movie Awards and its the first time performing together so its VERY nerve racking but, very exciting.
Tianna: Yea, that has to be…and you’re 19 right?
Rihanna: Yes.
Tianna: And you have three albums in three years, which is kind of unheard of to some people because some do still view you as a new face in the game. Yet, you have been doing this for a while and doing it back to back. So is it safe to say we will see an album from you in 2008?
Rihanna: (laughs) You know what? God knows because I definitely did not plan to put three albums out in the last two years! When I say it, it sounds psychotic…
Tianna: (laughs)
Rihanna: But we did it and it sounded great when we did it. Everytime we put an album out, it felt like perfect time. This album didn’t feel rushed, it came effortlessly and it felt like the perfect time. You know, its summertime, I love summertime and I always bring a single out for the summer. Next, I’m not sure if I’ll have an album out in 2008 because I will probably stop do a couple of movies before getting back to another album. But, you never know what’s going to happen - it all depends on how we feel…
Tianna: Being in this business for three years, have you adjusted to all the crazy rumors and comparisons people put you in - particularly with another very famous, beautiful and hardworking singer like yourself who is also linked to Jay. We really don’t need to say her name because you know who I’m talking about. Are you just use to it now?
Rihanna: I wouldn’t say I’ve completely adjusted because every rumor hits you in a different way.
Tianna: Right.
Rihanna: Some, you think are funny - then some gets frustrating - then you just start to ignore them. But, every time there’s a new one, it hits you like brand new. All over again, its starts feeling funny, then frustrating, then you ignore it. Every time I hear a new rumor, its like wow - and I just know they’re going to keep coming so I have to bear with it and not get too upset. You just have to ignore it sometimes.
Tianna: Lets go back to your new look, which I absolutely love. It seems sort of glam rock,
Rihanna: Yeah….
Tianna: How would you personally describe this look of yours?
Rihanna: Yeah it is glam rock. The new image is definitely glam rock.
Tianna: Yeaaaaahhhh!
Rihanna: Sometimes we do it a little bit girlish. I also like to wear sneakers but add the shades, gloves, and t-shirts. Most of time though, its definitely glam rock! We added a little bit of grunge in it too…
Tianna: Ok, now I’m going to ask you some questions from the readers over at CL…
Rihanna: Okay.
Tianna: One of our readers wanted to what is it like to be a Covergirl and what is your favorite beauty product because a lot of readers commented on your skin?
Rihanna: Its a lot of fun being a Covergirl because I’m so against being too girly.
Tianna: (laughs)
Rihanna: Like…THAT keeps me in touch with my girly side because I like to be so hardcore sometimes and anti-innocent that I use to have to portray. Now, that really keeps me intouch with my feminine side, I feel fun again and girl - its fun playing around with the makeup. I like a lot of lip gloss so, that would be my favorite beauty product….as well as shimmer for the skin. It makes the skin look good!
Tianna: Another reader wanted to know, what has been one of the highlights of your career so far?
Rihanna: One of the highlights…honestly, having “Umbrella”. “Umbrella” just became number one in so many different countries. It’s number in the U.K off digital downloads only, which has never been done by a female before. So I made history there and astounded me, being number one. Then I came back here and got an email saying that “Umbrella” just became number one on the Billboard 100 chart. Making history and just making that impression - like, that makes me think this will my biggest album with this big single. This new me and this new project is definitely going to be the highlight of my career, and its something that I know I will never forget for as long as I am doing this.
Tianna: What other artists would you love to work with that you haven’t had the chance to yet?
Rihanna: I would like to work with Andre 3000, and (inaudible at the second name - apologies).
Tianna: Alot of our male visitors wanted to know if you’re single and dating…
Rihanna: HA! I’m single…but not dating. No.
Tianna: (laughs) Okay. If you were not an entertaining, where do you think you would be?
Rihanna: I would still be in boring school studying psychology. I hate school so thank God I’m doing what I’m doing.
Tianna: (laughs)
Rihanna: I never liked school.
Tianna: Awww, I feel you. Alot of our visitors in the Caribbean wanted to say thanks for representing for them and one of them wanted to know your favorite Caribbean dish?
Rihanna: I like Curry chicken. That would have to be my very favorite.
Tianna: Yum. Ok Rihanna - last but not least, can you give a quick shoutout to the readers over at Concreteloop?
Rihanna: Yea. i just want to tell - thank you for all of the support. Thank you…you know, I read your comments, I go on Concreteloop sometimes and ya know, people are not very aware of that but, I just want you to know I am reading your comments and thank you for all the love. Even the haters…
Tianna: (laughs)
Rihanna: Thank you anyway. Because you’re encouraging me to do better (laughs). I can’t wait for people to hear the album and get it, so people will see…that I made a good album!
Tianna: You really go on Concreteloop and read some of the things here?
Rihanna: I do, I do.
Tianna: Because we post about you ALOT. You’re always in the media girl. You’re really doing your thing and becoming somthing so I wish you the best in success.
Rihanna: Thank you so much.
Tianna: Thank you - I know you have a lot to do so thanks for taking the time to speak to us today.
Rihanna: Alright, my pleasure.
Go pick up “Good Girl Gone Bad” IN STORES NOW!!

Nice interview. I still don’t think she’s much of a singer, but she has a nice personality and she’s a good entertainer. And that album cover is HOT. That’s the first time seeing it for me.

well i didnt learn anything new but…
i think it’s great that she’s goin against the grain, when she came here she heard a lot of stuff she never heard before and she took it all and made it apart of her style
u gotta have an open mind about it and quit tryin to hold ppl down with what they do and encourage them to step outside the box like she is doing instead of doin the same thin as everyone else over and over, now thats boring
and her havin three albums in three years is not a big deal, mariah and luda been poppin out albums left and right too
u should switch the sound clips

I am liking her more and more everytime I hear Umbrella and now that i went out and purchased the CD - this is a very good album. It is something different I really like it. And I am pretty picky about my music - I AM not a radio girl so I like what I like - I picked up Maroon 5 last week and I am dam glad to add Rihanna to the disc changer.
Good album Rhianna!

you people are killing me picking apart eveything she says!
so what she doesnt like school most people dont..especially when they teach lies and misconstrue the truth about history! half oF the powerful people and millionaires i know didnt graduate highschool the same people who fall into the school trap are the same ones so willing to work for someone else and work a 9-5 WITH NO ROOM FOR GROWTH
im glad she is doing what she loves if most of you got the chance you would do it too.
I HOME SCHOOL MY KIDS. I DONT HAVE TO UNTEACH THEM THE BULLSHIT SOCIETY FEEDS THEM.

School doesnt teach you how to manage your money. I didnt learn that until I started taking Business classes in college. Just because someone isnt taught what socirty THINKS they should know doesnt mean their dumb. Most people who feed into the school and 9-5 work are followers and often end up working for someone for the rest of their lives. Stop judging people based on what society has brainwashed you to think ids the right thing to do. People hae the freedom to live their lives as they please.
I knew a billionaire whos kids were home schooled for a few hours of the day and the rest of the day was family time. Eating, swimming, reading, and enjoying life…not the rat race YOU CALL LIFE

I agree with a lot of what you said. People are just glad that she doesn’t look like SWSNBM anymore, but what they fail to realize is that this too is an IMAGE! It honestly reminds me of Fefe Dobson http://images.google.com/...hl=en&q=fefe%20dobson, and so does the sound of some of her music now. I’ve heard some of the album, and I like the tracks like Lemme Get That, which still has a twinge of Caribbean influence. That Shut Up and Drive mess, I can do without.
Honestly, I don’t think a lot of people in the entertainment industry ever stay true to who they are. Mary is one of the only people who is actually who she puts out there. 98% of these people’s jobs relies on IMAGE! They have to do what sells.

I’M RIDING WITH JAY#2- BORING!!!
To Rihanna (since you’re reading):
Not a hater, but am honestly an ex-fan (lost me after Pon De Replay). Would probably consider once you stop trying to fool yourself and the public and get your own look. Even with your new “glam rock” style you’re still channeling that other BEAUTIFUL LIAR we all know and love. You know who you’re channeling and you refuse to give her her props. You did in the beginning and now you’re smelling yourself. IF IT WEREN’T FOR HER GIVING HER MAN PERMISSION TO DO THE SINGLE, YOU WOULDN’T BE #1. The crowd was lost after Jay left that stage at MTV and a lot had a look on their faces like they wanted to sit down - they looked bored and confused. Give up the dancing and singing - it’s not for you. Singing around your house isn’t the same projection you have to give when singing live and you CLEARLY can’t do it. You’re floating on your looks, which are average at best because you always look like a yesterday or last week version of your IDOL (she is still your idol isn’t she? Or do you think you’re bigger than her now - lol.)
UPGRADE yourself babe.

NICE SAFE INTERVIEW NOT TOO PROBING BUT I KNOW THAT THERE ARE TIME CONSTRAINTS INVLOVED AS WELL. I LIKE THE FACT THAT SHE IS A TEENAGER WHO IS EVOLVING AS A PERSON AND A ARTIST. I BELIEVE THAT’S WHAT SHE MEANT WHEN SHE SAID THAT THIS IS WHO SHE IS NOW. I WISH HER MUCH SUCCESS IN THE FUTURE AND HOPEFULLY THE PUBLIC WON’T KILL HER FOR EVOLVING INSTEAD OF PUTTING OUT THE SAME STUFF ON EACH ALBUM.

RU PEOPLE SERIOUSLY THAT STUPID TO NOT KNOW THAT MOST CELEBS USE THE SAME STYLIST?
I MEAN NICOLE RICHIE AND LINDSAY LOHAN HAD THE SAME STYLIST, JUST AS R&B SINGERS. WHEN ONE STYLISTS SETS A TREND MOST OTHER STYLISTS COPY. SHE DOESNT LOOK LIKE ANYONE BUT WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE TRENDY NOW!
AND I MEAN YALL WANNA KEEP SAYING SHE CANT SING. JANET CANT SING. MARY J WAS HORRIBLE WHEN SHE FIRST CAME OUT. THE GIRL IS 19 - SHE DOES HAVE LOTS OF ROOM TO GROW.
BED-STUY ITS CLEAR YOU JUST HAVE ISSUES. ARTISTS ARE A PRODUCT OF WHAT THEIR RECORD LABEL WANTS TO PROMOTE AND SINCE JAY IS THE PREZ, DID YOU HAPPEN TO THINK THATS WHAT HE KNOWS WILL SELL RECORDS! ARTISTS HAVE LITTLE TO NO SAY SO LOOK AT HER LABEL. SHE DOES HAVE TALENT AND YOU ARE THAT HATER WHO WILL PROBABLY BE HATING ON THE NEXT TEENAGER WHO IS WORKING AT THEIR ART

bk mary sounded like shit too when she first came out
all these rap artists protraying something they are not and being derogatory and you are picking at someones style. Mary j has a stylist too, she isnt responsible for her complete look. Every actor/actress/singer is given an image so dont knock her for it!
knock some of these REAL FAKE people like kim Kardashian and her fake assets and in the limelight for basically doing nothing. Rhi rhi is selling records, selling out concerts, and doing it big.
people wany to talk about her lack of singing skills, and her style….yet like someone said before you praise Janet Jackson for whispering and having a body ( that she clearly paid for) if her voice and style are all you have to bring up then its blatant that you all are jealous and probabyly at a 9-5 as we speak..you wish you could be on an island in a bikini looking as baging as she did….haterz haha

And I expect for a lot of people to be mad about the interview because I didn’t probe her with a million and one rumor questions…sorry, that’s not my style. I asked her about how she felt about them - she knows of them, she knows what I’m talking about and she’s given her opinion.
Plus, the rumors are pretty unnecessary - ex. did you sleep with Jay-Z? Was Umbrella about Beyonce and Jigga? You got a man in Barbados and you cheating on him with Omarion? LOL - ya’ll can leave those to Wendy Williams…and you must be a fool if you think Rihanna would admit to those if they were true.
Interviews here in most cases, are for the artist fans’ pleasure - which is why I particularly look for fan questions. We want it to be a positive experience - for the most part anyway - talking to an artist.
So sorry to disappoint but, again Rihanna was a pleasure…

That was a generic and boring interview Concrete Loop….what happened to all the “real” reader questions… ?

Some of them were so disrespectful! I dont blame Tianna for not using them!

Tianna I appreciate that you respect an artist not to probe them on stuff that other people would. That is how you gain respect from people. And other people always want to see the bad and negative. It sucks that people feed off that! I thought the inteview was nice and to the point. People who want to see negativity only have issues!

you people are killing me picking apart eveything she says!
so what she doesnt like school most people dont..especially when they teach lies and misconstrue the truth about history! half oF the powerful people and millionaires i know didnt graduate highschool the same people who fall into the school trap are the same ones so willing to work for someone else and work a 9-5 WITH NO ROOM FOR GROWTH
im glad she is doing what she loves if most of you got the chance you would do it too.
I HOME SCHOOL MY KIDS. I DONT HAVE TO UNTEACH THEM THE BULLSHIT SOCIETY FEEDS THEM.
people will find anything to pick at even if its something they are BRAINWASHED

Thanks Too Tat - I mean Concreteloop gets alot of respect from the media because we GIVE it. Its a big difference between being real and being mad disrespectful and I’m not for it.
So if you are desperate enough to find out if Rihanna is with Jay-Z - you can always write her (or him) a letter. Again, ya’ll must be fools if you think she would admit to it if it was true lol! That’s a waste of time.

That was kinda rubbish. There were some really good questions that people wanted to be asked, but you went for all the boring, generic questions that have been answered time and time again elsewhere.

Nikki SAID- Tianna, I am glad that u didnt stoop to low levels just to get a story! And If u wouldve been probing or disrespctful, she would have never given you or CL another interview. She wouldve told others in the industry “hey dont interview with CL cause they a disrespectful” So big ups Sista! I love to see women,of any color, who stick to their guns!

Tianna the interview was great! I for one sure didnt want any negative questions being asked. Why would anyone care about lies and nonsense? I guess that is what motivates people (ahem haterZ) anyway thanks for keeping it short and to the point and also respecting her as a person. If more media respected the entertainers there would be a lot less bull out!

To Tianna—I agree with you about asking about the rumors. Your interview was good and it gave me a new respect for Rhianna…..except for the part about school being boring.

Well, everyone can’t have the wisdom of LaBron James and Lisa Lopez at age 19! Rihanna is obviously more foucsed on her career than she is on the media and PR side!
Rihanna said: “…that’s why I call the album “Good Girl Gone Bad” because I really didn’t care anymore. I just wanted to do what I wanted to do and this is who I am now.”
==============================================
Meat said: I suggest you reveiw the careers of people like Mary J., Lauryn, and Whitney who got to a point where they didn’t care anymore and doing what you want to do! I’m sure you didn’t mean anything by that comment, but just in case, I’m tellin you to stay classy, girl!
I can’t believe you’re not dating! lol! Let’s see who I can hook you up with: Mario’s about your age!! And, Ray J. could help you with the “Good Girl Gone Bad” stans!! Jahiem could give you some unique looking children, but he’s a little older! Evian Ross is to young and soft!! Shemar is too drunk!! JayZ’s already taken!! Now, there is that young baller name Daniel Gibson who hit five-3s against the Pistons! He’s only 21 and soon to be resigned to a huge contract! Y’all could be the new Tony Parker and Eva Longoria! lol! Then again, there’s Meat! I’m 23, but already involved with an “Angel”! hehe!

Let me point out also that Mediatakeout started the Jay and Rihanna rumor - so I also suggest inquiring minds to request for them to get Rihanna for an interview and clarify that. I mean, if she was willing to - it would be interesting I admit, to see what she says. But ya’ll should know better…please.
