EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW w/ RIHANNA
RIHANNA SHOUTING OUT CONCRETELOOP AND THE VISITORS
I had the pleasure of interviewing Rihanna last week, who was very sweet. We addressed her new look, sound, and how she feels about these crazy rumors people like to put her in.
I could not include everyone’s questions, including the hundred referring to Beyonce. I mean, we can give that a rest seeing how the UK blasted Bee’s name on Ri-Ri’s album cover already. But, thank you guys for really submitting to this one.
Now lets see if all of you same people will go pick up “Good Girl Gone Bad” today…
—————-
Tianna: Lets start off with the obvious - we see you have a new look and a new sound for “Good Girl Gone Bad”. What prompted this change?
Rihanna: This change was just really an expression of how I’m feeling right now - in my life and in my career. I felt like I had enough of being forced into a particular image and sound, that’s why I call the album “Good Girl Gone Bad” because I really didn’t care anymore. I just wanted to do what I wanted to do and this is who I am now.
Tianna: Let’s talk more about your new album, what were some of your music influences for this record, compared to your last two albums? I’ve read a couple of reviews that have stated it has more of an alternative sound, so how would you describe the overall vibe of this album?
Rihanna: I would say, its a very edgy album. It’s hard to categorize it in a specific genre because it’s so diverse. Every song has a different element of a different genre. We got rock influences, we got Caribbean influences, some pop in there, as well as a 80s vibe in it. It’s a really cool sounding album, its fun and very entertaining - every song takes you to a different place and that’s what I love about it.
Tianna: How crazy was it to work with Jay on your first single - and THEN have him show up in your video? How was it working with the boss?
Rihanna: Absolutely a honor. Like…even saying it right now, hearing you say that makes me feel good because people go thorough their career dreaming of a collaboration with Jay Z and hear I am - my first single on my third album. It was perfect timing, the perfect song to do with him and just being on the video set, it had me tripped out a little bit because it was like “wow, I’m shooting a video with Jay Z”. it’s crazy!
Tianna: Right…
Rihanna: And I have to perform with him in a few days at the MTV Movie Awards and its the first time performing together so its VERY nerve racking but, very exciting.
Tianna: Yea, that has to be…and you’re 19 right?
Rihanna: Yes.
Tianna: And you have three albums in three years, which is kind of unheard of to some people because some do still view you as a new face in the game. Yet, you have been doing this for a while and doing it back to back. So is it safe to say we will see an album from you in 2008?
Rihanna: (laughs) You know what? God knows because I definitely did not plan to put three albums out in the last two years! When I say it, it sounds psychotic…
Tianna: (laughs)
Rihanna: But we did it and it sounded great when we did it. Everytime we put an album out, it felt like perfect time. This album didn’t feel rushed, it came effortlessly and it felt like the perfect time. You know, its summertime, I love summertime and I always bring a single out for the summer. Next, I’m not sure if I’ll have an album out in 2008 because I will probably stop do a couple of movies before getting back to another album. But, you never know what’s going to happen - it all depends on how we feel…
Tianna: Being in this business for three years, have you adjusted to all the crazy rumors and comparisons people put you in - particularly with another very famous, beautiful and hardworking singer like yourself who is also linked to Jay. We really don’t need to say her name because you know who I’m talking about. Are you just use to it now?
Rihanna: I wouldn’t say I’ve completely adjusted because every rumor hits you in a different way.
Tianna: Right.
Rihanna: Some, you think are funny - then some gets frustrating - then you just start to ignore them. But, every time there’s a new one, it hits you like brand new. All over again, its starts feeling funny, then frustrating, then you ignore it. Every time I hear a new rumor, its like wow - and I just know they’re going to keep coming so I have to bear with it and not get too upset. You just have to ignore it sometimes.
Tianna: Lets go back to your new look, which I absolutely love. It seems sort of glam rock,
Rihanna: Yeah….
Tianna: How would you personally describe this look of yours?
Rihanna: Yeah it is glam rock. The new image is definitely glam rock.
Tianna: Yeaaaaahhhh!
Rihanna: Sometimes we do it a little bit girlish. I also like to wear sneakers but add the shades, gloves, and t-shirts. Most of time though, its definitely glam rock! We added a little bit of grunge in it too…
Tianna: Ok, now I’m going to ask you some questions from the readers over at CL…
Rihanna: Okay.
Tianna: One of our readers wanted to what is it like to be a Covergirl and what is your favorite beauty product because a lot of readers commented on your skin?
Rihanna: Its a lot of fun being a Covergirl because I’m so against being too girly.
Tianna: (laughs)
Rihanna: Like…THAT keeps me in touch with my girly side because I like to be so hardcore sometimes and anti-innocent that I use to have to portray. Now, that really keeps me intouch with my feminine side, I feel fun again and girl - its fun playing around with the makeup. I like a lot of lip gloss so, that would be my favorite beauty product….as well as shimmer for the skin. It makes the skin look good!
Tianna: Another reader wanted to know, what has been one of the highlights of your career so far?
Rihanna: One of the highlights…honestly, having “Umbrella”. “Umbrella” just became number one in so many different countries. It’s number in the U.K off digital downloads only, which has never been done by a female before. So I made history there and astounded me, being number one. Then I came back here and got an email saying that “Umbrella” just became number one on the Billboard 100 chart. Making history and just making that impression - like, that makes me think this will my biggest album with this big single. This new me and this new project is definitely going to be the highlight of my career, and its something that I know I will never forget for as long as I am doing this.
Tianna: What other artists would you love to work with that you haven’t had the chance to yet?
Rihanna: I would like to work with Andre 3000, and (inaudible at the second name - apologies).
Tianna: Alot of our male visitors wanted to know if you’re single and dating…
Rihanna: HA! I’m single…but not dating. No.
Tianna: (laughs) Okay. If you were not an entertaining, where do you think you would be?
Rihanna: I would still be in boring school studying psychology. I hate school so thank God I’m doing what I’m doing.
Tianna: (laughs)
Rihanna: I never liked school.
Tianna: Awww, I feel you. Alot of our visitors in the Caribbean wanted to say thanks for representing for them and one of them wanted to know your favorite Caribbean dish?
Rihanna: I like Curry chicken. That would have to be my very favorite.
Tianna: Yum. Ok Rihanna - last but not least, can you give a quick shoutout to the readers over at Concreteloop?
Rihanna: Yea. i just want to tell - thank you for all of the support. Thank you…you know, I read your comments, I go on Concreteloop sometimes and ya know, people are not very aware of that but, I just want you to know I am reading your comments and thank you for all the love. Even the haters…
Tianna: (laughs)
Rihanna: Thank you anyway. Because you’re encouraging me to do better (laughs). I can’t wait for people to hear the album and get it, so people will see…that I made a good album!
Tianna: You really go on Concreteloop and read some of the things here?
Rihanna: I do, I do.
Tianna: Because we post about you ALOT. You’re always in the media girl. You’re really doing your thing and becoming somthing so I wish you the best in success.
Rihanna: Thank you so much.
Tianna: Thank you - I know you have a lot to do so thanks for taking the time to speak to us today.
Rihanna: Alright, my pleasure.
Go pick up “Good Girl Gone Bad” IN STORES NOW!!

A humble retration on my part and sincere apologies to darkaqua_30 for my earlier comments. I was totally in the wrong and my comment was actually met for someone else so please forgive me if you give a shit.
However to…Bed-Stuy said:
To Rihanna (since you’re reading):
Not a hater, but am honestly an ex-fan (lost me after Pon De Replay). Would probably consider once you stop trying to fool yourself and the public and get your own look. Even with your new “glam rock” style you’re still channeling that other BEAUTIFUL LIAR we all know and love. You know who you’re channeling and you refuse to give her her props. You did in the beginning and now you’re smelling yourself. IF IT WEREN’T FOR HER GIVING HER MAN PERMISSION TO DO THE SINGLE, YOU WOULDN’T BE #1. The crowd was lost after Jay left that stage at MTV and a lot had a look on their faces like they wanted to sit down - they looked bored and confused. Give up the dancing and singing - it’s not for you. Singing around your house isn’t the same projection you have to give when singing live and you CLEARLY can’t do it. You’re floating on your looks, which are average at best because you always look like a yesterday or last week version of your IDOL (she is still your idol isn’t she? Or do you think you’re bigger than her now - lol.)
UPGRADE yourself babe.
My Response to you is…at best you wish you were Rhi Rhi or the idol she claims to love. Either way next the definition of a hater you’re number 1. Get it together, by writing what you did in hopes that she will read it will not affect her life, career or her money . So why don’t you keep your focus on praising What’s her name that can’t even articulate a sentence or even explain her own lyrics and Rihanna supporters will do what we do which to support a different artist who is bringing something different to the table. Matter of fact since you yourself have a way with words maybe you can come up with an English lesson for Jayz’s lady trophy and hopes she reads it. Maybe her next song will be about you! LOL.
Also to any other haters who think Mary should have gotten the song. Honestly it would have been a totally different song. Their voices are totally different but Rhi Rhi brings that island vibe and that’s why the song is so successful. Besides Mary’s been in the game a hot minute and she’s only getting older, so how about letting someone else shine.
Signing off RIHANNA’S #1 FAN!

*sigh*….ok, Tianna, I was not feeling that interview. If you feel certain questions are vulgar, or just unappropriate, I agree with you not using them. Though, as the interviewer, you should have something to add yourself to make a hot interview( like you normally do). I felt you held back a lot, and you know you did.
Rhianna your smart(you know what I’m talking about. However,I’m going to leave it alone,I’m not trying to put you on blast),lol. I will say,you handled the interview very professionally, and you continue to look sexy. Also, lIKE i’VE mentioned before, I don’t blame you for doing what your doing to make your money. Several times in the past I was was offered plenty, but I refused to compromise, and I ended up regretting all of it. So do you, make your money!! Lucky, doors are starting to open for me again, so……

Excellent job Tianna! I’m glad you asked those questions and not anything that would insult Rhi-rhi. Celebrities read this website and you want to be viewed as a reputable and professional interviewer. You do not want to jeopardize any future interviews with artists.
I loved the interview! What type of interview did you guys expect from a 19 year old – discussions about getting the United Nations to come up with a resolution to stop the genocide in Darfur???? Give her a break! Ri-Ri is a very classy girl. I have always liked her as a celebrity, but after this interview she has truly impressed me. Since you guys have mentioned the “other” woman in the media, I’m glad that Rhi-rhi has shown that even if she did not like school, she can actually put together a subject, verb, and predicate - unlike the “other” celebrity you soooo admire. And at 19, she can clearly express herself without coming off as simply “eye candy that jumps around the stage and shakes her long blonde hair, but when you ask her 25 year old butt a question, she chokes up because she can’t find the words to say how she feels.” Rhi-rhi has a brain! Actually, I don’t know why anyone has to mention the “other” lady’s name in THIS post. THIS interview and discussion is about Ri-ri! Please let HER shine. CL posts ENOUGH information about the “other” lady in the spotlight. Save your comments for THOSE blogs…

All I know is she better ride the wave of fame while she can. She’s just an average singer and I don’t think she’s much of a dancer either. I think her star power will die down with-out something more than well produced tracks and mediocre vocal ability. What would or could keep us entertained otherwise? Good interview none the less. Way to keep it classy Tianna.

BED-STUDYI doubt Bee can tell J what to do. Permission for what? People could say the same thing about Bee. If it werent for Jay being on Crazy In Love it wouldnt have been a hit. The album would have gone down the toilet like the solo she attempted previously. So, the only person who should be getting props here is Jay. You are allowed not to like her but it is so ignorant of you to say give up the singing and dancing. I can guarantee if it were you and your no talent ass youd be shaking and jiving knowing fully well you cant sing a lick and you dance like you are physically challenged. Lastly, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and in my eyes Bee has nothing on this chic. But then again, I dont think either is all that special or unique looking.

WHADDUP…There are plenty of people who hate school but love to read. I’m not saying this is necessarily true for Rhianna though. Also, there are a lot of great artists who never don’t get nominated for a Grammy much less win one. Rhianna has only been in the game for a minute. Give her at least an hour will ya?

CJ…Why does everyone keep comparing her to Fefe? The glam rock look doesn’t belong to Fefe. There can be more than one black girl with that look. We don’t all wear Rocawear and Baby Phat and some of us actually appreciate all types of music and styles.

CHANTE…Half of these people talking about her being a sellout aren’t even from the Caribbean. If they are, they don’t know shit. We listen to all types of music.
MAM1312…Say what you want, but Rhianna is not a “bimbo”. She is very articulate. I can name a few who are, but I won’t so I suggest you quit while you are behind.
ATREUOU82…You might as well have put her on blast. I suggest you keep it to yourself next time since you don’t want to get into it. It isn’t as if people here aren’t smart enough to read between the lines. I like how you pretend to not want to start anything but we both know it is the exact opposite. *wink*

Just listened to her album on the internet. I’m glad I didn’t buy it. It’s so bad I don’t even want to burn it. It’s pure trash, WTF is she a hard rocker now. She is not real and her new look is just another desperate attempt to get attention. My advice girl, just be who you are and stop trying to mold yourself. Oh, and get hooked on phonic eh, eh, eh, eh.

i went out and bought the cd yesterday ,there’s some really nice songs on there.but my fav is track 11 “QUESTIONS EXISTING” while she’s refering to herself in the song, some of us find ourselves in the similar frame of mind.I also like all types of music especially alternative,i don’t think she’s selling out the carribean,c’mon would jay z, L A reid ,or evan’s rogers invest their money in calypso her native cultural music. I DON’T THINK SO, NOPE.it’s business plain and simple, let rhi rhi do her thing stop trying to box her in.go get yo money girl, go get paid.from one Bajan to the next here’s to success tip my empty wine glass to you. p.s remember for every one that hates you the’re mil;lions who love you.good luck.

I purchased the cd yesterday and I must say it was pretty good. I love gimme that! that is my anthem for the summer. I do however feel a lack of her personality coming out of the songs. She used three beats from other artist(which is very common). I feel that has a young woman she is still looking for her own style and image. I’m a fan, yes, but I am also a hater because I feel she needs to step her game up and not allow the record label to tell her what she should be. Her singing skills are not song, which is very true, it can at time she beyond annoying, but she is living her dreams. good luck and hope that you move towards a future about “your” kind of music and style.

SHUT THE HECK UP ALL OF YOU! UNINFORMED MINORITIES. YOU’LL NEVER BE SATISFIED UNTILL YOU HAVE THIS GIRL CRYING FOR MERCY. Did it ever occur to you idiots that while “blacks” of all kinds, minorities alike strive for excellence in this country, that ignorant obnoxious fools like your selves bring them down with your self loathe? That hate goes a long way… And it is all up on concrete loop. HATERS spinning comments in hopes that your words will penetrate her thoughts; talk about PUTTING YOUR WORDS WHERE THE KNIFE IS.
Where the mass is concerned, majority rules that BLACK PEOPLE have a serious problem with cultural adaptation, not just with others, with each other. We take so much out on each other. How are we to progress at this rate? When a Caribbean artiste is being compared to and shunned because she doesn’t meet the standards of a “supposed” “African” American influenced female artist, who has gained the likes of an identity that is not her own? Possibly, if Rihanna had dyed her skin bleach pale pink, and added a couple of twenty two inch blond locks on her head, you all would be more pleased and less bothered by her now less familiar image. So I see if you don’t look white and sound like BEYONCE/EX-DESTINY’S CHILD MEMBER/SOLO ACT/ “B”/BIGGA/HOTTEST-CHICK-IN-THE-GAME/DREAM GIRL /KNOWLES, you’re not worth the air time? What kind of message do you inferior fools think you’re projecting? Your unawareness, and lack of caring for your own people, is the reason three quarters of the entertainment industry upholds such unrealistic, unrecognizable standards. Who’s making the judgment call? Why is Beyonce Knowles the new standard? (Is it because she looks “white” “black” & “mixed” simultaneously?) Well folks get over your gotta look like BEYONCE, sound like BEYONCE, dress like Beyonce, walk-talk-and sing like Beyonce fever, because Rihanna is who she is, she was conceived by two totally different people, and is entitled to a unique genetic make up, as well as different career goals and a different path in life. SHUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT UPPPPPPPPPPPPPP ALL OF you LOseRs!
NO I AM NOT A HYPOCRITE. I may not be invested in Beyonce Knowles as a person; however I’ll give credit where it is justly due. I was in fact a fan of her music. I am extremely fond of the progress that Miss Knowles has made in the music industry, as her musical talent and contributions will be greatly be remembered and celebrated in music history for years to come. On the contrary, she is NOT and I repeat Not, the ideal remodel as far as lyrical or sensible music goes. SO STOP trying to impose otherwise.

big up to all my favorite “Non- singing” singers! They make the best music that fun youthful and great to dance to! Janet , J-lo, Rihanna, Ciara Keep doing the damn thing and making hard tracks and i’ll keep supporting. Singing isn;t all about having that church voice and whatever. When Janet coo’s on a track like “with U” i’m in heaven and i know it wouldn’t be the same if a “real singer” sings the same track

I finally got the Rihanna cd and people it is good. Quality work. When you really think about it, it really comes down to quality music. Honestly my music collections doesn’t contain anything post 2000 with the exception of maybe a handful of artist Beyonce included. Don’t get me wrong, I am definitely a fan of B I have all of her albums less the DC remix cd that was really not neccessary. But the point is, instead of trying to tear another artist down because she doesn’t live up to the so called new standard which is all of a sudden Beyonce, we should try to evaluate the music that the artist is about. Beyonce could only have existed in the millenium because one could imagine if she had in the 90’s we might not have the likes of Mary J., Janet, Mariah, Whitney, Toni, Deborah Cox, 702, Jade, Brownstone, Brandy, Monica, Mya & Destiny’s child before Beyonce’s head swelled up and kicked Letoya and Latavia to the curb. You know the artist who also made their contribution to music history without resorting to bleaching creams and chemicals that make your eyes lighter. Seriously, since everyone’s hell bent on comparing every new artist to Beyonce and her sophisticated lyrics. CL really should think doing a segment on that. Do an interview with all of the artist who were here before Beyonce and who are insultingly being compared to her and see what they have to say. Anyway check out the new Rihanna album otherwise I’m Breakin Dishes… It’s hot!

@176 well it must have worked because she sure as hell got the attention!
i hate using the word hater but you can truely tell the difference….some people said “i like her now,now i want her first 2 albums..”which mean they werent fans but like her now whereas you have others who “SHE CANT SING,SHE SUCKS,SHE’S TRYING TO BE LIKE BEYONCE OR FEFE DOBSON”get a life, you’re really trying to get your word across that you HATE rihanna. WE GET IT!

Tianna- You did a great interview, very professional and classy. Rihanna is doin her thang big time. But it did make me a little sad to know that she reads the statements. Some of the statements are ridiculously insulting and cruel for no good reasons. It’s like being able to read every persons mind, sometimes you just don’t want to know what a person may be thinking about you. Rihanna, you’re a much better person than I could ever be, much love.

Why does everyone insist on hating on Beyonce, on Rihanna’s behalf. I don’t understand why it has to be Rihanna’s copying Beyonce, or Beyonce is coping whoever. Why can’t they just be to talented ladies that deserve the success that they have strived for.

I think the interview was okay. I mean you asked some alright questions. I can’t lie though I find her really unentertaining on her best dayz. Still u have to give her, her props…she’s still working hard and getting paper:)! so what if she doesn’t like school, yall can’t even lie, it’z days when yall would drag your feet on the way to school;-)
Anywayz big ups to her & u Tianna 4 handling the interview as any mature person would have(without all the drama some like to bring…ex. Wendy William…even tho sometimes its funny)

Rihanna I like you are a wonderful artist and because I’m Caribbean as well I usually am drawn to artists from the Carribbean..Even though i like the new look and musical style..I still would like for you not to make Def Jam turn you into a puppet!!..Be you be Caribbean have a video with a reggae artist or show some dance moves..You are becoming too Americanized..and the truth is you’ll still sell records…because alot of people like that vibe..jus give us somethin like “Pon de Replay” one more pleeeease…But ur still very charming..do ya thing girl!!

She’s very fake that I know cause I met her and it was a turn off for me, her attitude stinks, I love her her music though the girl just can’t sing….props to her though she’s doing her thing and she’s surely going places, and I must say def jam must really like this girl I don’t think they spend as much focus and money on any other artist on their label….. all the best and I hope she’s prays alot, cause she sooooooooo gonna need it.
