I would usually say something harsh about Rihanna, but I liked the interview and I think I have a little soft spot for Rihanna in my heart.

I am liking her more and more everytime I hear Umbrella and now that i went out and purchased the CD - this is a very good album. It is something different I really like it. I agree with a lot of what you said. People are just glad that she doesn’t look like SWSNBM anymore, but what they fail to realize is that this too is an IMAGE! It honestly reminds me of Fefe Dobson http://images.google.com/...hl=en&q=fefe%20dobson, and so does the sound of some of her music now. I’ve heard some of the album, and I like the tracks like Lemme Get That, which still has a twinge of Caribbean influence. That Shut Up and Drive mess, I can do without.

Honestly, I don’t think a lot of people in the entertainment industry ever stay true to who they are. Mary is one of the only people who is actually who she puts out there. 98% of these people’s jobs relies on IMAGE! They have to do what sells.

As far as Janet, I’ll be one of the first people to admit that she doesn’t have vocal chops. I never listened to a Janet track, expecting her to blow me away vocally, but you could always look foward to some hot dance moves, and a good show from Janet. She did a very good job at the MTV Movie Awards.. she kinda surprised me with the performance.

Her album is a masterpiece to me, the best out of the 3, (this year has been the year of the 3: Spiderman 3, Pirates 3, Shrek 3, Rihanna’s 3rd album). I bought it today and have been bumping it from start to finish, each song is better and better!

I need to know…were some of the questions sent to Rihanna prior to the actual interview? I ask because there is a distinct difference in her answers in the first part of the interview. They sound very formal & educated. When you get to the second part of the interview, it’s almost like it gets dumbed down. She repeats herself a couple of times unnecessarily.

I detest that ridiculous Umbrella song. She needs to fire whoever wrote that song. And if she was different from the rest of the pop tarts she would be taking a stand and not taking such adult pictures. She’s 19, the majority of her fan base is probably pre-teen & teen and very impressionable.

Rihanna is representing island girls and I’m proud of her. The album is different - not R&B at all - pop and rock with a tinge of reggae. I never thought I’d get into pop and rock like this. My favourite tracks are Breakin Dishes,Shut Up & Drive, Rehab and Good Girl Gone Bad. Breakin Dishes and Shut Up & Drive are great for the gym i.e. they pump you up when you’re working out. Rehab and Good Girl Gone Bad have the acoustic guitar in them that makes them so folksy. Great job Rihanna and don’t fall into the temptations of other stars i.e. go bankrupt or end up on drugs and alchol. Rihanna will be here in Toronto, Canada next week at Best Buy signing CDs, I think I will go check it out.

I purchased the cd yesterday and I must say it was pretty good. I love gimme that! that is my anthem for the summer. I do however feel a lack of her personality coming out of the songs. She used three beats from other artist(which is very common). I feel that has a young woman she is still looking for her own style and image. I’m a fan, yes, but I am also a hater because I feel she needs to step her game up and not allow the record label to tell her what she should be. I finally got the Rihanna cd and people it is good. Quality work. When you really think about it, it really comes down to quality music. Honestly my music collections doesn’t contain anything post 2000 with the exception of maybe a handful of artist Beyonce included. Don’t get me wrong, I am definitely a fan of B I have all of her albums less the DC remix cd that was really not neccessary. But the point is, instead of trying to tear another artist down because she doesn’t live up to the so called new standard which is all of a sudden Beyonce, we should try to evaluate the music that the artist is about. Beyonce could only have existed in the millenium because one could imagine if she had in the 90’s we might not have the likes of Mary J., Janet, Mariah, Whitney, Toni, Deborah Cox, 702, Jade, Brownstone, Brandy, Monica, Mya & Destiny’s child before Beyonce’s head swelled up and kicked Letoya and Latavia to the curb. You know the artist who also made their contribution to music history without resorting to bleaching creams and chemicals that make your eyes lighter. Seriously, since everyone’s hell bent on comparing every new artist to Beyonce and her sophisticated lyrics. CL really should think doing a segment on that.
