MASTER P DEVELOPS NEW HIP-HOP TALENT SHOW

masterp.jpg Master P is developing his own reality hip-hop talent show in the same vein as the wildly popular series “American Idol.”

Titled “America’s Next Hip-Hop Stars,” the show will give aspiring rappers from across the country a chance to compete for a recording contract and $50,000.

Twelve solo and six group finalists will perform their favorite hip-hop songs or original material and will be critiqued by a panel of celebrity judges. At the end of each show, viewers will have an opportunity to vote via phone or online for their favorite performers.

The contestants with the least amount of votes will be eliminated. (read more via SOHH)

BOUNTY KILLER CHARGED WITH ASSAULT; BEAT DOWN HIS BABY MAMA

bountykiller.jpg Dancehall artist Bounty Killer appeared in a Jamaican courtroom Tuesday (June 6) to face charges of assault. Bounty, whose real name is Rodney Pryce, is accused of the May 23 assault on his son’s mother, 33 year-old Julie Rambally. The 34 year-old artist allegedly attacked Rambally as she walked down the street, punching and kicking her, before dragging her several feet and slamming her head into a wall. She was later treated at a local hospital. Bounty was arrested June 3 at a Kingston nightclub. During his court appearance, he was slapped with another assault charge, stemming from an incident in which he allegedly attacked Rambally last July. He was ordered to stand trial July 24. (source)

ludacris recently narrated “The Heart of the Game,” an independent documentary by filmmaker Ward Serril; Luda said he thought the film was meaningful. After seeing “Crash,” Serril was enthralled with Ludacris and couldn’t wait to get him to be apart of the project.

“The Heart of the Game” centers around eccentric high school basketball coach Bill Ressler and his Seattle girls team, the Roosevelt High Roughriders. Not only do the ladies face adversity on the basketball court, but in the court of law and at home, as well. (read more)

BEYONCE LAUNCHES SEARCH FOR ALL-FEMALE BAND

Superstar Beyoncé Knowles has announced her search for an all-female band.  The musicians chosen will become the artist’s touring ensemble in support of her second solo album, “B’Day,” slated for September release.

Auditions will be held before Beyoncé’s creative team and the superstar will make the final selections.

Musicians should be at least 18 years and older and prepared to play Beyoncé’s hit song, “Work It Out,” as performed on the “Beyoncé: Live At Wembley” DVD.

Positions to be filled include drums, keys, bass, guitar, horns (alto, tenor, sax, trumpet) and percussion.

ASHANTI & CHINGY BEING SUED MY THEIR FORMER MANAGERS

ashanitsue.jpg A former manager for the R&B singer Ashanti who claimed to have been instrumental in the singer’s career sued her on Tuesday, seeking millions of dollars in damages for breach of contract.

In the Manhattan federal court suit, former manager Linda Berk said she had guided Ashanti, 25, from an unknown minor to a “music and entertainment superstar” before her contract was cut short in May 2003.

“The contract naturally expired and we didn’t renew it,” a spokesman for Ashanti said. (source)

chingysue.jpg The owner of a St. Louis-based record label has sued Chingy, claiming that the “Right Thurr” rapper reneged on a contract in 2002 so he could join Ludacris’ startup label, Disturbing Tha Peace.

Ronald Gavin is asking for $250,000 in damages and at least $25,000 for legal fees.

According to the lawsuit, Chingy (whose real name is Howard Bailey) signed an exclusive deal with Gavin’s 49 Productions Inc. in 1999 when he was still pretty much unknown and rapping under the name H. Thugzy. (read more)
