Singer Janet Jackson radiates happiness on the cover of the health publication, Prevention Magazine. The birthday girl (who turned 46 on May 16th) looked amazing on the July 2012 issue and chatted a bit about her weight gains and losses throughout her career, being a role model for her niece, Paris and how she feels about her slimmer self today:
ON HER PUBLIC WEIGHT LOSSES AND GAINS:
“I think people really connect with the idea of someone who’s gained and lost weight in this very public way, and also someone who’s an emotional eater. Chocolate, cake, caramel apples—there aren’t many things I don’t love.
ON BEING A ROLE MODEL FOR HER NIECE, PARIS:
“We’ve spoken about the fact that you’re only a child once. I think there’s a time for everything, and now is not the time [to act in films]. I told her I thought she should enjoy being a kid, possibly go to college—or not—but wait till she turns 18. She’s a very tough, smart girl. But it’s a cutthroat industry. Who said blessings can’t come in twos? Meet Asia and Ashley Matthew. These two identical twins have just defeated all odds with their latest accomplishment. After graduating from New Orleans’ Xavier University with honors, the 18-year-old sisters applied for a prestigious program at University of Massachusetts Medical School: an 8-year rigorous program where some of the world’s smartest earn their MD and PhD while completing their residency. The two of them were selected out of 40 people interviewed for a spot in the 7-10 person class.
ASIA ON APPLYING FOR THE PROGRAM:
“I was very nervous. It’s hard not to be. This is the one thing that I’ve wanted for a long time and when you see it almost at your fingertips, you don’t want to do anything to let it slip.”
