Following the announcement of the BET Awards nominees, a few celebrities expressed their disappointment in the television network’s choice of award nominees. Miami rapper Trina took to the Twitter streets and shared her feelings on their choice of female rappers for the ‘Best Female Rapper’ category. If you missed our previous post, Trina was not included in the lineup of rappers to possibly win the ‘Best Female Rapper’ award. The artists selected were Nicki Mnaj, Lola Monroe, Diamond (formerly of Crime Mob) and Cymphonique (Master P’s daughter). Trina tweeted a simple phrase to the Black Entertainment Television network:
*clears throat* Keyshia Cole, on the other hand, voiced her opinion on the nominations being that she wasn’t included in not one female artist category…but then she randomly tweets about how her and Lil Kim are not friends…

Early Tuesday evening, BET’s 106th & Park hosted a 2011 BET Awards Nomination Special where they announced the nominees for this year’s award ceremony. Leading the pack is Chris Brown, who has received 6 nominations: Best Male R&B Artist, Best Collaboration (for which he holds two nominations) Video of the Year, Best Actor and Coca-Cola Viewers’ Choice. Lil Wayne comes in second with 5 nods. Kanye West, Rihanna and Drake all come in with 4 nominations each. Actor/funny man Kevin Hart has been chosen to be the host for the popular, televised award show:
“When we asked folks who should host this year’s BET AWARDS online, in the streets, among other celebs and throughout social media, one name came back to us loud and clear: Kevin Hart,” said Stephen Hill, BET’s president of music programming and specials.
“He is blue flame right now and we are looking forward to working with him on the show. His energy, wit and the always fantastic performances will make for yet another must see event—and the ‘Chocolate Droppa’ might even get a verse in the show.”
As far as performances go, Alicia Keys has been confirmed to hit the stage.

Former BET star/host Corey “DJ Megatron” McGriff was shot and killed not too far from his Staten Island, New York home on Sunday morning. According to reports, the former Hot 97 DJ was shot to death while walking to a local bodega to purchase a cigar. The 32 year-old was less than a block from his brother’s home and received a gun wound to the torso. Sadly, Megatron died on the street with “his eyes facing the sky and a baseball cap at his side.”

Detectives probed the crime scene, but were unable to find any solid evidence or eye witnesses. No arrests were made. McGriff’s loved ones say he had no known enemies. However, it has been discovered that a “former friend repeatedly slammed the popular, young BET star in an online forum.” Three months ago, someone left messages on the DJ’s Youtube videos saying:
“I told u all u had to do was pay the f—–g bill. I tried to help u out but u wanna play me, right? Bite the hands that feed u, right Mega?
“Bad s— will continue happening to u, Dude!” [Source]
The NYPD hasn’t decided whether McGriff was a targeted victim or a victim of a robbery. DJ Megatron is survived by his 3 children. Our condolences to his family and friends.

On Monday night, the cast of ABC’s Dancing with The Stars (Season 12) made their debut and hit the dancefloor for the first time with their professional partners. The first celebrity up was television personality Wendy Williams and her partner, Tony Dovolani. After Williams gave a rather stiff performance, the judges told her to not be so timid, then hit her with a score of 14 out of 30. Ouch. Hopefully she won’t get kicked off before the second episode. There’s a chance that she will improve as the show goes on…
On the other hand, rapper Romeo Miller, formerly known as Lil Romeo, showed off his dancing skills with his partner, Chelsie Hightower. In his performance of the cha-cha, Romeo kept it cool (of course), and proved that he has potential to move to the next round. The judges told him that he was too casual and gave him a 19 out of 30. Double ouch. Either way, he and Wendy did a good job for a first performance!
