EVENTS: VIOLA DAVIS & OCTAVIA SPENCER WIN BIG AT THE 18TH ANNUAL SAG AWARDS

Actresses Viola Davis accepts for ‘Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role’ and Octavia Spencer accepts her award for ‘Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role’ at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium on Sunday (January 29) in Los Angeles, California.

‘The Help’ also won ‘Best Cast in a Motion Picture’ during the ceremony, which included legendary actress Cicely Tyson. Check out all the attendees below!

MAG COVER: DON CHEADLE KICKS OFF NEW YEAR ISSUE OF ‘JET’ + CLARIFIES ‘GANGSTER’ OBAMA COMMENT

With his television series acting debut just around the corner, Don Cheadle has been chosen to the cover this week’s issue of JET magazine. The House of Lies actor kept it light and humorous as he chatted it up with the publication about how he would play Dr. Conrad Murray if given the opportunity, how he managed 20 years of marriage and how he wishes Obama were more “gangster”:

ON PLAYING CONRAD MURRAY:
“(Conrad Murray) is actually my passion project. You hit it! I want to play Conrad Murray, but I want to do him in drag and somewhat mentally disabled because that’s what will get me my Oscar. Oh wait, for Black people you have to be like a prostitute or a gangster. I’ll do him as a prostitute and I’ll definitely get that Oscar!”

ON HIS 20 YR RELATIONSHIP W/ GIRLFRIEND BRIDGID COULTER:
“We were married in a pagan ritual,” jokes Cheadle. “No it just wasn’t planned. Our first daughter (Ayana, 17) wasn’t planned and it just happened. So we were like, we’re together. Are we supposed to get married now? After 20 years, I guess we could. It’s just never been a priority.”

ON OBAMA’S PRESIDENCY:
“I think he inherited an impossible situation. I wish he had not been so much of a consensus-seeker. I just wanted to see a more ‘gangsta’ president. Continue

TV NEWS: DON CHEADLE TAKES ON COMEDIC ROLE IN ‘HOUSE OF LIES’ / MOS DEF PLAYS BROTHER SAM IN NEW SEASON OF ‘DEXTER’

Hotel Rwanda‘s Don Cheadle is taking his movie acting skills over to another side of entertainment – television. The Emmy-nominated actor is starring in a new comedy television series, House of Lies, where he plays Marty Kaan, “a highly successful, cutthroat consultant who is never above using any means (or anyone) necessary to get his clients the information they want”:

While you sleep, while you work, while you play, we keep America running like clockwork. With the secret handshake, the wizards of Oz, the hand up your skirt when no one’s looking, we keep big business in business by telling them what they need, when they need it. Truth? We’re just stealing their watch to tell them the time. And they’re paying us millions for the favor.

House of Lies is based off the Martin Kihn novel, House of Lies: How Management Consultants Steal Your Watch and Then Tell You the Time. The television series premieres on January 8, 2012 at 10pm EST on Showtime. Peep the promo trailer above.

Speaking of Showtime, rapper Mos Def is also putting his acting skills to use as he guest stars in Season 6 of the cable network’s show, Dexter. He plays a character named Brother Sam and so far his character has been killed off! Halleluyer! Lol Check him out at the 0:32 mark in the video below.

Halle Berry was spotted leaving the hair salon in Beverly Hills, California on Friday afternoon.

Brandy and good friend Keisha Epps smile for the camera as they leave Katsuya in Hollywood on Thursday night. According to the paps, they gave money to a homeless man before heading home.
