Music’s biggest night featured a bunch of stars including multiple winner Adele, host LL Cool J, honoree Diana Ross, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Chris Brown and Bruno Mars. It also featured a bunch of dope performances and not so dope performances (*cough* NICKI MINAJ)..
LL Cool J served as the perfect host, starting the show off with a prayer for the late great Whitney Houston. Singer Jennifer Hudson also paid tribute with a performance (VIEW HERE). Singers Alicia Keys and Bonnie Raitt paid tribute to Etta James and there was a short acknowledgment of Don Cornelius by Quest Love. On a more positive note, the legendary Diana Ross received her first Grammy, getting the ‘Lifetime Achievement’ Grammy.
British singer Adele took home top honors during the night including, Album of the Year and Song of the Year. She matched Beyonce’s 2009 record of 6 Grammy wins in one night. Before the end of last year, Mary J. Blige released the official music video for her My Life II single, “Mr. Wrong,” sans Drake. Now, weeks later, the alternative version has finally dropped with the rapper featured in the Diane Martel-directed clip. Check it out.
Wow! Who would have thought Common and Drake would have hip-hop beef? After coming after Drake on the song “Sweet” (off of his Dreamer/Believer album), Common fires back again. This is only because Drake supposedly threw some subliminals on the Rick Ross song “Stay Schemin’” he is featured on. Drake says, “Don’t be ducking like you never wanted nothin / It’s feeling like rap changed, it was a time it was rugged / Back when if a nigga reached, it was for the weapon / Nowadays niggas reach just to sell their record.”
Now Common took it a step further and fully put the Canadian rapper on blast saying, “My motto is Chicago bitch / Everybody know you sweet, what the problem is/ Don’t play dumb, I’m the one that acknowledged it/ Son of a bitch, imagine what your father is.” He also says later in the verse, “I’m taking too long with this amateur guy/You ain’t wet nobody, nigga, you Canada dry.”
Looks like Common is telling Drake he better respect his elders! Will Drake respond directly on a track? We’ll see..
