EVENT PICS: THE 43rd ANNUAL NAACP AWARDS + PERFORMANCES

Hosted by actors Sanaa Lathan and Anthony Mackie, the 43rd Annual NAACP Awards went down on Friday evening (February 18). A slew of celebrities hit the stage in Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium to present the various award nominees, perform a song or two or to accept an Image Award.

Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer cleaned house and swept up 2 out of the 3 awards for their hit box office film, The Help. Actors Sidney Poitier and Harry Belafonte presented the President’s Award to the Black Stuntmen’s Association. Samuel L. Jackson presented George Lucas with the Vanguard Award for his work on the motion picture, Red Tails. Jennifer Hudson and Ne-Yo performed “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” in tribute to the movie director.

Jennifer Hudson won the Outstanding Album and Outstanding Music Video award for her album & single, “I Remember Me.” Traccee Ellis Ross and Regina King won awards for their roles on Reed Between the Lines and SouthLAnd, respectively.

As far as performers, Jill Scott & Lenny Kravitz rocked the house. Kirk Franklin sang a bit of “The Greatest Love of All” and Yolanda Adams performed the spiritual song “I Love the Lord, He Heard My Cry” in tribute to the late Whitney Houston. PEEP SOME OF THE PERFORMANCES HERE.

PICS/VIDEO: BET HONORS 2012 + PERFORMANCE LINKS

The fifth annual BET Honors was tapped last month at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C. and finally aired on Monday evening (February 13). This year’s award show honored Dr. Maya Angelou, singers Mariah Carey and Stevie Wonder, film director Spike Lee, educator Beverly Kearney and the Tuskegee Airmen.

Actress Gabrielle Union was the host for the evening with musical performances done by Aretha Franklin, Kelly Rowland, Jennifer Hudson, India. Arie, Ledisi, Common, Anthony Hamilton, Patti LaBelle and more. There was also a spoken word performance given by Willow Smith, Cicely Tyson, Queen Latifah and Jill Scott.

EVENTS: 54TH ANNUAL GRAMMY AWARDS (AUDIENCE, BACKSTAGE & PERFORMANCE LINKS)

Music’s biggest night featured a bunch of stars including multiple winner Adele, host LL Cool J, honoree Diana Ross, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Chris Brown and Bruno Mars. It also featured a bunch of dope performances and not so dope performances (*cough* NICKI MINAJ)..

LL Cool J served as the perfect host, starting the show off with a prayer for the late great Whitney Houston. Singer Jennifer Hudson also paid tribute with a performance (VIEW HERE). Singers Alicia Keys and Bonnie Raitt paid tribute to Etta James and there was a short acknowledgment of Don Cornelius by Quest Love. On a more positive note, the legendary Diana Ross received her first Grammy, getting the ‘Lifetime Achievement’ Grammy.

British singer Adele took home top honors during the night including, Album of the Year and Song of the Year. She matched Beyonce’s 2009 record of 6 Grammy wins in one night. VIDEO/PICS: JENNIFER HUDSON PERFORMS TOUCHING WHITNEY HOUSTON TRIBUTE AT GRAMMYS

Singer/actress Jennifer Hudson payed tribute to the late great Whitney Houston during the 54th Annual Grammy Awards. She sang one of Whitney’s most memorable songs, “I Will Always Love You” while fighting back tears. Check it out below.

In related news, singer Chaka Khan was expected to take the stage alongside Jennifer Hudson but opted not to perform because it was too early. Tweeting, “As I grieve the loss of my friend and “little sister,” I don’t feel it appropriate to perform at this time. Continue to pray for the family.”
