JILL SCOTT’S VH1 ‘STORYTELLERS’ + AFTER PARTY PICS (PREMIERES TONIGHT)

Earlier this month, Jill Scott recorded her episode of ‘VH1 Storytellers’ in front of a live audience at the Manhattan Center Grand Ballroom in New York City. She put on a show by getting into character (as seen above) and showing off different sides to herself and music.

The singer performed some of her fan faves like “Golden,” “Crown Royal” and “Come See Me.” Shortly after, select people were invited for an after party celebration at the Ink 48 hotel with appearances from Janelle Monae, former American Idol contestant Michael Lynche, Bravo TV’s Chef Ruble and Concrete Loop’s own Angel Laws.

MUSIC VIDEO: JILL SCOTT – “BLESSED”

In her directorial debut, Jill Scott gives us the visuals for “Blessed”, the fourth single from her latest album The Light of the Sun. Jill has a lot to be thankful for with her son’s third birthday last week, in addition to production beginning on her new television remake of Steel Magnolias this month and kicking off this season of VH1′s Storytellers, premiering May 21, not to mention her first No. 1 album with The Light of the Sun.

One question, though: What’s up with the Muppets?

TV NEWS: ANGELA BASSETT LANDS A SERIES ROLE / QUEEN LATIFAH & MORE JOIN NEW LIFETIME MOVIE / EVELYN & CHAD’S REALITY SHOW

After a successful run on the hit NYC Broadway show, ‘The Mountaintop,’ Angela Bassett is making her move back into television. The ‘Waiting To Exhale’ actress will be taking on a role as a CIA agent on an upcoming FOX drama series:

Angela Bassett is in final negotiations to star in FOX’s untitled drama pilot. Bassett will play the very calculating director of the CIA who has an unusually large amount of political power.

The TV show follows Jane Forsythe (Saxon Sharbino) an orphaned 14-year-old daughter of a CIA operative who encounters a mystical rogue agent (McMahon) who acts as her surrogate father and professional mentor in the covert world. [Source]

No word on what the series will be titled. On the other hand, it’s good to see her making her way back to television. The last TV show she starred in was NBC’s ‘ER’, back in 2009, where she played Dr. Cate Banfield.

QUEEN LATIFAH JOINS NEW CAST FOR LIFETIME MOVIE

Queen Latifah, Jill Scott an up-and-coming actress Adepero Oduye will be a part of a new cast for the television film for the 1989 film ‘Steel Magnolias.’ This revived version will feature a few notable African-American women tackling some of the popular lead roles:

Queen Latifah is joining the star-studded cast for Lifetime’s all-African-American Steel Magnolias reboot as M’Lynn, the character played by Sally Field in the 1989 feature film of the same name. Condola Rashad will play her diabetes-stricken daughter, Shelby (played by Julia Roberts), and Rashad’s mother Phylicia will reinterpret the role of Clairee (portrayed by Olympia Dukakis). Alfre Woodard will tackle the irascible Ouiser, who was unforgettably played by Shirley MacLaine, Jill Scott looks to fill Dolly Parton’s shoes as understanding hairdresser Truvy, and Pariah breakout Adepero Oduye will play insecure newcomer Annelle, made famous by Daryl Hannah. Although the original film took place in Georgia, this story will be placed in the state of Lousiana. It’s also no surprise that Queen Latifah will also have her hands in on the production end, too… Continue

VIDEO: ‘A DREAMER’S DREAM’ (FEAT. BLAIR UNDERWOOD, TYRESE & JILL SCOTT)

In light of Black History Month, actor/singer Tyrese directed and produced an inspirational video called ‘A Dreamer’s Dream,’ where actor Blair Underwood prays to God but instead is answered by the late civil rights activist, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (voiced by Tyrese).

In his conversation with the reverend and his wife, Coretta Scott-King (voiced by Jill Scott), the Kings speak on the covenant of marriage, the importance of voting, and what we can all do today as a people to bring Dr. King’s dream to life.
