Malcolm Jamal-Warner and Tracee Ellis Ross have been selected for the December 2011 / January 2012 issue of Upscale magazine. The Reed Between the Lines stars talked about their new show, the chemistry they share on screen and their thoughts on their BET sitcom being compared to The Cosby Show.

Traci: “I didn’t have a picture in my head of who should be my (onscreen husband) and first moment with him was so palpable… doing scenes with Malcolm does not feel like acting. It’s like it just happens, and I think that’s the magic that people long for.”
Malcolm: “If you’re going to be joined at the hip, you want it to be with someone who shares the same vision and shares the same kind of integrity and values..it’s probably one of the best non-physical love affairs that I’ve ever had. With the premiere of their first episode just around the corner, BET and the cast of it’s newest television seriesReed Between the Lines held a private pre-screening of the show’s premiere episode. Malcolm Jamal-Warner, Tracee Ellis Ross, BET’s Debra Lee & Stephen Hill as well as the entire crew invited the media and select outlets to the Bar Basque in New York City for a private VIP screening.
Kanye West made a random guest appearance and came to support the network’s show and actors.
In a recent interview, Tracee Ellis Ross admitted when she knew that her cast mate, Malcolm Jamal-Warner was a great choice:
It was sort of that magical piece of the puzzle that you could not pay for. We do have great chemistry and it was organic and authentic. From the first moment when I was in that screen test with Malcolm I could already feel the potential of what the show could be. For the first time I got a taste of who Carla was and so it’s been a good choice. [Source]

Malcom Jamal-Warner is all smiles on the cover of HEED Magazine‘s Fall issue. The 41-year-old actor is getting ready for his return to television with his role as Alex Reed on BET’s newest sitcom, Reed Between the Lines, co-starring Tracee Ellis Ross (Carla Reed). On the show the Reeds play a modern-day version of a couple that is very much like the Huxtables in The Cosby Show.

Tracee Ellis Ross covers the new issue of JET (available on newsstands October 10). In the cover story, “Our Girlfriend Is Back”, the actress speaks on her new series, BET’S Reed Between the Lines, which premieres Tues., Oct. 11 at 10 ET, and more. Ross, who also produces the show, stars as therapist Carla Reed and says she was drawn to the project:
“The world of self-help and self-awareness has always been of great interest to me. I welcomed the opportunity to introduce, through comedy, this idea of therapy, which has been this ‘hush hush’ thing in our culture.”
