First Lady Michelle Obama helped to unveil the bust of Sojourner Truth in Emancipation Hall of the US Capitol on Tuesday, April 28th in Washington D.C.
Sojourner Truth was an 19th century American slave, abolitionist, and women’s rights activist who is best-known for her speech, ‘Ain’t I a Woman?‘
Later on that afternoon U.S. President Barack Obama presented Anthony Mullen with the 2009 National Teacher of the Year award in the Rose Garden. Several other teachers were also honored at the event.

First Lady Michelle Obama pictured taking off her jacket to help plant a tree in Washington, DC on Wednesday afternoon.
In observance of Earth Day, Mrs. Obama, along with her husband President Barack Obama, participated in the event at the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. The event was organized by the Student Conservation Association, an Americorp organization.
Earlier in the day, President Obama signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act that intends to more than triple the AmeriCorp volunteers to over 250,000 in the United States costing taxpayers roughly a billion dollars a year, over the next five years. (View more pics below).
